When did you feel movement (those with anterior placenta)?

Am aware that with an anterior placenta it's generally quite a few weeks later that you start feeling kicking; especially with your first.

When did everyone start feeling definitive movement with this? I've felt a couple of wee things but can feel an incredibly strong pulse in the region so am assuming any 'movement' I'm feeling is actually this. Particularly since it's fairly in time Wink

I have anterior placenta this is my third pregnancy and didn't have it with the other two. I got a few butterfly movements at 16 wks but it was definitley 21 weeks before I was certain it was baby.

Pontouf · 16/12/2012 07:28

I had an anterior placenta with my first. I didn't feel definite movement till about 21 weeks and it was never easy to feel movement from the outside for the whole of my pregnancy. Think DH felt th baby move twice in 9 months! DS is now a very active two year old though and I'm 24 weeks pregnant with No2. I don't have an anterior placenta this time and I've been feeling proper kicks from about 17 weeks so I think it does make a real difference. How far gone are you?

Teapig · 16/12/2012 09:12

I have an anterior placenta and haven't felt any definte movement yet. I'm 22+4. I've felt a couple of small flutters in that region but haven't felt anything strong enough to convince me it's definitely baby moving. It does worry me but hoping that it's because it's my first and I have an anterior placenta.

NewMrsH · 16/12/2012 11:24

22 for me, my first too! Now 25 and still a bit of pot luck, depends how he's laying. Xxx

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 16/12/2012 12:14

This is my first and I have an anterior placenta.
I first started feeling little tickles at about 16 weeks, but felt my first definate kicks at 20 weeks. That was a one off though, and was most probably because of the way I was lying in bed and squishing him.
Have been feeling daily kicks and movement now since 22 weeks.

I'm 18w with an anterior placenta and this week started feeling flutters. Last night I could feel what I thought were kicks (the above poster's description of a "pulse" is a good one!) but today I've been feeling it quite a bit and now just wondering if it's a bubbly tummy...I like to think it's the baby letting me know it's there though Smile

Mylittlepuds · 16/12/2012 13:17

I have had an anterior with both pregnancies. Definite kicks at 19 weeks with DS1 and definite kicks with DS2 about 18.5 weeks.

Mylittlepuds · 16/12/2012 13:18

DC2 that should say! Don't know what I'm having!

ShowOfHands · 16/12/2012 13:22

17 weeks. It felt like when you are in a place with wooden floor and v v loud music and the floor vibrates? That but inside me. It remained like that until about 23 weeks when she started being able to kick and punch around my placenta.

I had a posterior placenta 2nd time round and had visible and palpable movements by 15 weeks. He kicked the midwife's hand at my 16 week check. She was very surprised.

carrielou2007 · 16/12/2012 13:48

I'm 22+4 have anterior placenta with this one and both other dc. Only in last week or so have I felt flutters and a few proper kicks. I was about a stone overweight both both dc so had a bit if extra cushioning bit not with this one Grin

both dc were back to back but having a c section (for medical condition) thus time do he can sit however he lIked!!

NAR4 · 16/12/2012 13:56

I have an anterior placenta (this is my firth pregnancy) and didn't feel a thing until 22 weeks and no definite movement until about 24 weeks.

weeblueberry · 16/12/2012 15:30

Thanks everyone. For those of you saying it felt like a pulse, how did you differentiate between that and the movement of blood in the area. As I said I'm feeling a pulse type feeling quite often but have just assumed it is the blood moving in the area as its so regular?

hi there, I have an anterior placenta and felt 'bubbles popping' as a sensation but nothing like real movement until about 24 weeks ish. I'm now 32 weeks and movement is definite.

NoTeaForMe · 16/12/2012 21:29

Around 24 weeks. It felt like wriggling, I missed all the bubble popping etc that people talk about!

Themobstersknife · 16/12/2012 21:32

24 ish weeks and it was my second!

Samvet · 16/12/2012 21:33

I had an anterior placenta with DC 1 and didn't convincingly feel anything until 24 weeks or so. It was very frustrating and worrying as I wanted to reassurance of movements! However, this time I have a posterior placenta and felt movement from 16 weeks and it is unmistakable - very different. So I wouldn't expect to be convinced until a few weeks over 20 weeks and starting with a fluttering. By the end despite the postition of the placenta you could visibly see the movements and easily feel them mind you!

weeblueberry · 17/12/2012 10:40

I think the difficulty in pinpointing what's movement and what's not is that it feels so different to everyone.

Some people have said bubbles, others have said flutterings and my friend recently said it's like the feeling you get when you need to poop but don't. Which made me laugh. Grin

At approximately 18-19 weeks I felt first flutters. I was quite concerned about not feeling anything because this is my 2nd, I had expected something by then. I came on here and asked about it and was reassured by others with anterior placentas, had it confirmed at my 20 week scan that baby was using the placenta as a duvet rather than a mattress Smile

24 weeks now and getting booted regularly, palpable and visible from the outside too!

photochick · 17/12/2012 11:19

DC1 and the first time I definitely felt movement was walking around in London and the baby was using my bladder as a trampoline at about 19 weeks. There was nothing else that could possibly have been causing those feelings!! Still only getting the odd flutters / 'rolls' and have not felt any movement from the outside. Anterior placenta confirmed at scan last week as was a happy wriggly baby.
21+4

ReikiMummy · 28/12/2012 18:18

Hi - new poster here. First time round for everything...! Also have anterior placenta... did a bit of nosing on Google-University and found a link somewhere that said that placenta's can move about during pregnancy? Or is this tosh and they are more or less fixed where they land?

weeblueberry · 28/12/2012 21:46

No from what I've read it can move. Some women have an early lower placenta which covers the cervix. It can move which stops it being a problem but if it doesn't move people might need a c section.

Trishstar · 28/12/2012 21:51

This is my first and my placenta is anterior too. First flutters felt at 13-14 weeks and first proper kick at 22 weeks, since then have gone on to feel kicks/flutters/rolls daily but no one has felt them from the outside yet.

I had a little extra padding to begin with ;-)

ReikiMummy · 29/12/2012 16:11

Thanks Weeblueberry :) Guess I'm just keen to feel the little one jump and move about - the fascination may wear a bit thin come about 30 weeks when a foot lands in my lung for the umpteenth time!

Trishstar - extra padding.. yup - me too!

SpikyLikey · 29/12/2012 16:13

I had an anterior placenta with DC1. Flutters at 18 weeks, definite movements by about 20 weeks.

weeblueberry · 29/12/2012 16:20

I've definitely felt little things in the last couple of days. They're quite low feeling though and are almost like the feeling you get when you need to wee? There's movement up near the top though but am worried its just has and I'm making it all up Blush
