Im guessing I wont be the only one to have this! But someone help me. How can I relieve heartburn or stop it?' it's now too painful and doctors are useless and can't get me an appt till after Xmas! :(

My sympathies, it's awful isn't it? I basically swig gaviscon from the bottle and chew on antacids. Mint helps some people but didn't help me.

I sip water and eat little and often, and sleep propped up high.

Things that make it worse for me: tomatoey foods, coffee, and chocolate (ARGH!). I still eat them, I just make sure I have things around to treat the resulting pain and horror :)

Lying on my left side was marginally better than lying on right. Sleeping propped up. Expect you're trying all that. Bastard, isn't it?

goodbyekitty123 · 12/12/2012 19:04

I bought some Tums which seem to work a bit for me- at least they taste nice. I went to my doctor and was given omeprazole but I haven't wanted to take any until unless I need to.

PickledInAPearTree · 12/12/2012 19:06

Gaviscon peppermint liquid is soothing.

Hot milk to drink.

Ask dr for omprezole which is not the right spelling!

BahSaidPaschaHumbug · 12/12/2012 19:09

Yy you need a fuckoffbig bottle of gaviscon on prescription and a straw and keep a pack of chewy gaviscon in your bag for when you're out.

If that doesn't do the job get doc to prescribe either Omeprazole or Ranitidine if its really awful.

BahSaidPaschaHumbug · 12/12/2012 19:10

Oh and you don't need an appointment with the doc. I just rang my surgery and asked for a call back after clinic. GP did a prescription for me there and then over the phone.

pod3030 · 12/12/2012 19:17

i hated the sliminess of gaviscon. gluggingsipping fizzy water, and keeping it by your bed helped. half a teaspoon of bicarb in water and a big burp helped too. ahhh, i miss the satisfaction of a massive bicarb burp. perhaps i'll have one now, for nostalgia's sake (dd 12 months). :)

SunnyUpNorth · 12/12/2012 19:18

I found the gaviscon dual action tablets, two at a time, best as the normal gaviscon or Rennies did nothing.

PickledInAPearTree · 12/12/2012 19:25

I find the liquid good as it cools as it goes down. Slimy though it is.

I have the utmost sympathy op I am thirty weeks and get it terrible. I'm going to ask for omprezole.

PickledInAPearTree · 12/12/2012 19:26

I'm interested in the bicarb dosent it taste vile though?

pod3030 · 14/12/2012 07:09

doesn't taste too bad actually, you dont use enough to taste it too strongly, and it was worth the moments face-squinch for the relief it gave me

lookingfoxy · 14/12/2012 07:27

Gaviscon double strength double action tablet things, I get them from Asda.
Also just phone gps and speak to receptionist about getting a prescription, im pretty sure you don't need an appt.
