I am 7 weeks pregnant and am seriously struggling with morning sickness. My department at work is currently undergoing cut backs and I won't find out if I still have a job until the end of the week. My dilema is that I am so ill that I am running out of the office every 20 minutes and am strugglign to function. Should I tell my employer that my lack of concentration and time in the office is down to pregnancy or keep my mouth shut in case it's a good enough reason to not keep me on?

You legally cannot be fired for being pregnant. That said, I am not sure what the best course of action would be in your situation as you've mentioned that cutbacks are already imminent. Hopefully someone else will be along shortly with good advice!

That sounds like a nasty case of MS to me. Are you suffering with hyperemesis? Have you seen a doctor? Might be worth getting medical advice and possibly some treatment (I think if you have got hyperemesis you can take certain medications to improve things).

I can understand why you are cautious. I would be tempted to mention something to a manager that you trust that you are currently feeling unwell and that you are worried that it may be noticed, so they can hopefully reassure you. I'd try to be vague but make it sound like a water infection, rather than morning sickness, or a d/v situation where you should be staying at home.
If you are going through a formal redundancy process, the chances are that most of the decisions about who stays/goes are already made and they are tying up the last few loose ends and getting appropriate letters/documents produced for Friday.

If I were you I'd feign a stomach bug until the end of the week when the decisions are official. I know you can't be fired for being pregnant but if they found out they may decide it would be more efficient to make you redundant rather than pay you maternity pay when you're not there. At least if you're laid off before you tell them of your pregnancy you won't feel like that was the reason. Whereas if they lay you off based on your being pregnant there will be no way to know for sure that the decision had been genuine or based on not wanting to pay 2 people to do one job. I don't think you'd be able to prove anything if you wanted to take them to court for unfair dismissal.
