I have had it as a child and an 10 weeks pregnant.

Will it be ok to see a child who has chicken pox or should I stay well clear?!

I think it's better to steer clear - you can get shingles second time around and I think even if you don't get it the baby can be affected. I don't know for sure, but I'd stay on the safe side!

DH caught cp while I was pregnant with ds. He'd had it before but not gained sufficient immunity. I'd stay clear to be on the safe side.

You can't get shingles from chickenpox, but in the first trimester I'd probably err on the side of caution incase you havent retained immunity from childhood tbh (unlikely but not impossible).

sleepy is right. You can get chicken pox from shingles but not shingles from chicken pox. In fact being re-exposed to chicken pox increases your immunity to developing shingles. However, I don't think I'd take any chances at the moment because some people (rare) can catch chicken pox more than once.

Did you have your chicken pox immunity checked?

No one could remember if i'd had it as a child and I work with children, spoke to my midwife who suggested I have a blood test taken. Was just a simple process and got results back in 5 days.

Came back showing i'm immune so has given me great peace of mind should it go round the Nursery.

Would recommend to any pregnant ladies who are around other children if you want that peace of mind Grin
