I have 2 DS who have both been born prem due to me having an incompetent cervix and hyper mobility 28 and 33weeeks DS1 was natural delivery at 28 weeks and resulted in awful tearing and my cervical suture being ripped out with him and me needing reconstructive surgery 3 days post delivery!
DS was a c section at 33 weeks as I have also had 2 hip replacements and pelvis wasn't taking pregnancy, I was also 3cm dilated! C section was planned from 16 weeks due to still having metal plate in hip which is now gone however due to hyper mobility I have to have a GA as eqidurials and spirals don't work for me!

Well I am now 26 weeks with DS3 and stressed about delivering this baby, to the point I am not sleeping and have googled every horror story on net! Also not help that with my history I don't have 14 weeks left I have 9 MAX as the tablets have to bestopped at 28 weeks and have had some infections so consultant is saying 33 weeks is more than he expects!

DH wants a c section as I have group b strep, and it's less stressful and he can't bear to see me in pain and I don't know what I want! My consultant says I can try a natural birth and have a 70% chance of achieving it but that leaves a 30% chance of labouring and then getting a c section anyway! A c section is harder to recover from and having a GA means I will once again be asleep and miss the birth of my baby. But with my hips/ pelvis I won't be able to have much pain relief for a natural delivery as am allergic to morphine and epidurals don't work and they have to get the stitch out before I can deliver which will be awful without drugs!!

As you can see I am totally loss and going round in circles so would love to hear what other mums would do!

Hi zoey thought this was going to be one of those threads where the woman has just realised where baby comes out of Blush

I would go for the c-section just because it's more predictable regarding what will happen as with all your risk factors it maybe they resort to that anyway then you've the worst of both.

I've had 2 sections under GA and the planned one my recovery was much quicker/saw baby much quicker than with the emergency one which followed trial labour & associated problems

Has the consultant not advised either way?

Sorry to hear the stressful position you're in. In your shoes I'd go for the c section. Yes it's surgery but it seems less risky - you can still have a birth plan to ensure you have skin to skin as soon as possible for example. Either way you'll have a lot to recover from physically, but if you try for a vaginal birth and it gets complicated you might have more to recover from emotionally too.

id go for the c -section, its planned, controlled and you will have full attention of the medical staff.

Lora1982 · 09/12/2012 09:08

I would also go for the c-section as it sounds like youve had a lot of problems in the passed

I would also go for the c-section. In your post you have mentioned several factors that make a vaginal birth sound potentially high-risk.

YouSeveredHead · 09/12/2012 09:14

Sorry another who would say a caection.

Hi Zoey,

I just wanted to post and sympathise with you, I'd probably go with the flo and opt for a c-section, but only you know if you really want to go through that, it's just that the idea of having hip/pelvis pain on top of normal labouring pains and the risk of excessive tearing freaks me out more than being asleep when baby is born.

I feel really sorry that neither of the options you're facing are nice fluffy ones, but I think you're amazing to have decided to have a third after all the horrors you've suffered, in your position I think I'd have stopped at 1!

I was also feeling sorry for myself today with morning sickness and feeling pretty crap, but you've made me realise how lucky I am and that I should stop whining and just get on with it!

Good luck with whatever choice you make, I hope it all works out.

If you decide to go for a natural birth, have a look at hypnobirthing. For me it has made me feel confident that there is nothing to be afraid of in labour and that I have natural ways to control the pain so don't want or need drugs/epidural. It is definitely worth it in your case as the option of drugs is not there. Either way, it is your choice and there are pros and cons to both but there is no need to feel stress and worry about the fact that you can't have drugs. Hypnobirthing techniques will help you deal with getting that stitch out too while staying calm and controlled. I'm sure you are able for it all if u stay in control. So good luck with your decision for that one days experience and remember that either way you will have a fab baby at the end of it and that is the important bit.

Thanks it's nice to hear it rom other mums who understand labour and c sections as hubby just can't stand me in pain! I just hated the fact that DS was born at 1.00 in afternoon and I dint see him till 8.00 at night as I alway get ill low blood pressure after a GA and that was the only thing I couldn't deal with ad it drove me mad and having a baby in special care and not being able to get to him was awful x
