Is this because I've eaten complete c*** today? feeling shaky and rubbish

Am 18 weeks today. I've been suffering morning sickness since week 6 and it has generally got better though I still feel sick after eating most days but not throwing up. Today I ate some snack a jack things which had MSG in them, and some jam sandwiches at a children's tea party, plus 2 cups of tea (have been avoiding caffeine because it makes me want to throw). Now I'm feeling really shaky, as if my blood sugar has crashed - have only had this a couple of times and that was before pregnancy - after doing intensive exercise.
Basically I've not been eating many sweets or even chocolate this pregnancy but may have done something today that is making me feel weird.
I've had a lot of water and for breakfast had an egg white omelete, and some prawn mayou sandwhiches at lunchtime. Lots of water and carrot sticks so much be the MSG and jam? I did feel really sick after the prawns though.
Someone give me some reassurance that I'm not developing GD and tell me off for eating things I know will make me feel bad - but I had to eat! Have put on 8lbs so far this pregnancy so think am okay.

Have you had dinner? Anything else since lunch? You need to eat more if you feel like this.

Why are you worried about GD?

Amnewtoallthis · 08/12/2012 18:25

Hi TeamBacon I've eaten way more than I normally pregnancy or otherwise, today. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19 - but had no problems TTC with DD1 and with this pregnancy, but was warned I was at risk of developing diabetes - regardless of my weight (have been healthy weight last 20 years- now 42). I guess I'm feeling weird and panicky. Just had brown bread with mayo - but bread makes me feel sick! So am bearing with it.

There's nothing wrong with snack a jacks or jam sandwiches.

Eat something and see if it makes you feel better.

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2012 18:27

You do sound like your blood sugar levels have crashed but I would put this down to you apparently having not eaten anything substantial all day, rather than having had a jam sandwich. You need to eat a proper meal and try to snack on things like bananas to keep your sugar levels up (I completely failed at this and tended to eat fruit pastilles).

Amnewtoallthis · 08/12/2012 18:29

It's tough though because everything makes me feel absolutely awful after eating it, I either get heartburn, indigestion or feel sick - even water. I was told my HCG levels were higher than average - had to have a CVS to check baby was okay (she is!) - so I guess I'm going to had to stuff myself! I'd give anything to have my food given intravenously at the moment!

It quite worrying to hear a pregnant woman describe an egg white omelette, a prawn mayo sandwich and some snak a jacks and jam sandwiches to be way more than she normally does.

Way more? So how much do you normally eat then?

Hamnvik · 08/12/2012 18:37

That doesn't sound like enough food in a day for anyone nevermind someone who is pregnant. If you don't mind me asking do you worry about how much food you eat in general?

Amnewtoallthis · 08/12/2012 18:44

Actually was a whole pack of snack a jacks, and probably about four slices of bread in the jam sandwich. To be honest this pregnancy I've gone off all the food I love, homous/spinach/feta/dahl - I did ask the midwife at my 16 week check up if I was eating enough - I'd written a two day food diary because I was worried. But because I've put on enough weight she said it was fine and to make sure I take vitamin supplements, my iron and sugar levels were all fine.

The problem is I'm a veggie who occasionally eats seafood - eg prawns salmon and tuna and I'm finding it really difficult to eat. I've always been a faddy eater, and everything I normally like tastes metallic or just awful. Spinach which I love, feels like wire wool. I'm not skinny btw! Before I got pregnant I had a really healthy diet and exercised about 4 times a week (I include yoga in that btw).

It's just not enough food.. can you have something little and often? Will keep your blood sugar levels more stable and might help with the sick feeling. Just crackers or something?

Have you had any fruit? If you're shaky a banana will help if you can stomach it.

Amnewtoallthis · 08/12/2012 19:10

TeamBacon it probably isn't! But this week I've started to have bump and I look pregnant finally, so my forcing food strategy is working. Being veggie and not being a big dairy eater probably does limit my choices. As I said though, everything makes me feel ill, apart from egg whites!

:)

Remember too that you haven't put on the 8lb - baby will be what, 2-3lb by now? placenta and fluid, plus the extra volume of blood will easily weigh that much I reckon.

Hope the sickness passes soon. Can you eat rice, potatoes, pulses etc? The only thing that made me stop feeling sick was force-feeding myself mini cheddars. After that sickness passed all I wanted was pizza and magnums (Mm health Wink ) so understand the limited diet thing.

worsestershiresauce · 08/12/2012 19:34

You need a proper balanced diet to stop yourself feeling like this and to give your baby the best possible start. It is hard when you feel rough, so just do your best. The only thing I'd add is eat the yolks! Egg white omelettes are a bit mad. The yolk contains essential nutrients your baby needs to develop its brain and nervous system. It's like picking out the most nutritious part of a meal and throwing it away.

Hello, I had similar during my pregnancy at around 29 weeks, I even posted about it on here. However, with me it was the first signs of a raging kidney infection which left me hospitalised. I am sure this is not the case for you but just wanted you to keep an eye out. Hope you're feeling better now

Thanks flickstar what were your other symptoms? I've made self eat omlette today for b/fast and marmite popcorn. Now cooking a quorn casserole with rice tomatoes carrots etc. Is making me feel hungry - I think maybe I'm going to have to make an extra effort to cook vegan/veggie stuff I can eat. DD is looking forward to the casserole too.

You need to eat more, I get this frequently in pregnancy it can make you feel rotten, I keep individual cartons of pure juice in the fridge, one of them and a slice of toast/banana usually makes me feel much better. Proper meals aswell, I feel brilliant after something like a cottage pie and loads of veg, not so great after a sandwich.

Flickstar · 09/12/2012 16:50

My other symptoms were a temperature and flu
Like symptoms as well as horrid temperature. Here's my

I think you need more calories.

Im 34 weeks nearly and the last few weeks have been feeling very shaky, all iron level etc were fine so my Dr suggested increasing my calorie intake and since then I've felt much better.

I have found that water makes me feel a bit sick if its on an empty stomach, try having tea/hot drink/milk or even orange juice before water
