Is this strong 'pulse' I'm feeling in my abdomen the placenta?

I have an anterior placenta and for the last couple of weeks (am now 17+6) I've felt a very strong 'pulse' at the front of my abdomen. I only really notice it when I'm being still and try and feel for kicks (which I still can't feel Sad) but it's very regular and very strong.

It's something I've never noticed before so assume it's pregnancy related?

Sounds like kicks to me......

I think it's too regular to be kicks though? Unless the baby has a phenomenal sense of rhythm... Wink

Sounds like your blood flow boombing away. Remember there's a lot more blood circulating now and loads going to the placenta. If it's your first 18 weeks is still very early to feel kicks plus anterior placenta means it's harder to feel. Don't worry Smile.

I doubt you could feel your placenta as it's underneath a layer of fat (sorry), your stomach muscles and the uterus wall itself. As BFG said, you have lots more blood now so you will naturally have a strong pulse.

I had an anterior placenta in my first pregnancy and didn't feel movement until almost 20 weeks, and often people don't feel anything until 22 weeks - so don't worry that you've not felt anything yet.

I have that - I'm pretty sure it's just your pulse. Also got an anterior placenta, and am 18 weeks so very similar! Def not kicks I'm afraid.

YouCanBe · 04/12/2012 13:33

Yes I think it's just the extra blood in your body too.

Thanks everyone - hadn't considered it was just my pulse. Its seriously strong! Smile

And yes I knew it wasn't kicks I'm afraid. Unless the baby has a little boombox in there I don't think she can keep time that well. Wink

Yes I'm getting this too blue at 20 weeks. It fits with my pulse rhythm so I assumed it was my blood supply going into the placenta. Distinctly different to the kicks.

ImGoingToCountToThree · 04/12/2012 19:28

Yes your placenta has a pulse, it can be picked up by a Doppler. This is why when your midwife listens in she sometimes will check your wrist pulse at the same time just to check she is picking up the baby's heartbeat and not your placenta pulse which is the same speed as your heart beat.

Is it hiccups OP? When pregnant with mine they used to get these quite often, in the beginning I thought it was a pulse (mine or the babies?!) Grin
