Being Comfy at Work

I am now 28 + 3 weeks and my bump has started to get in the way of my desk even by having the chair at the lowest setting. Is there anything else I can do as my bump keeps rubbing the desk and it's not comfy at all?

I just pulled the keyboard to the edge of the desk, and sat further away from the table! Not much else you can do unfortunately :)

I have a desk with a curved edge at work, so guess this is why I haven't experienced this issue myself (am 33 + 4)

Is your workplace large enough to have a team/advisor who can help you adjust your working environment for your special needs?

Good luck with getting comfortable - it's certainly not easy when you have to spend most of your waking hours sat at a desk when pregnant!

Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to Christmas so I don't feel like I'm chained to a desk lol. :-)

Has your workplace done the (legally required) health and safety forms for pregnant women? You should speak to HR, don't feel you're making a fuss because you're not and you're protected by law. If there is literally nothing that can be done then you might just have to be a bit uncomfy, but they need to do everything they can to help you.

Your employer should have organised a proper workplace health and safety assessment for you when you informed them you were pregnant. Has this happened? If not try and speed things up! Sitting in an awkward position for hours and hours can put you at risk of developing lots of aches and pains.
Remember to take regular breaks from your desk - even just walking to the loo printer every 45 mins or so will help you stay flexible.

Thanks for the advice. I work with children with behaviour problems so in their eyes the risk assesment has been done because im not with the children as i was told when i reminded them i had seen no risk assesment nore had i signed anything.

Djembe · 04/12/2012 11:45

That's a different issue IMO - they should have specific forms for pregnancy risk assessment which allow you to assess your work environment properly.
