Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get the best for value muslins? Also at night do I need sleep suit and sleeping bag?

In the day how many layers does baby need to wear, I have short legged bodysuits. Do I need trousers as well or will socks and a little cardigan be ok. Giving birth in march.

Many thanks

Best value Muslims can be found in asda, Sainsburys etc.

Just imagine the baby is you and dress them depending on the weather. At the moment my dd2 is in a sleep suit and sleeping bag as it is mighty chilly Smile

Lol! Predictive text! X

nannyl · 30/11/2012 20:37

in march i would guess you will need trousers

if you wouldnt be wearing shorts then nor will baby Smile

I agree Supermarkets do good value muslins

especially when sainsburys have baby events and slash prices further

M&S are also very good value for baby basics, often no more expensive than supermarkets, and some items are cheaper, especially if you can find a discount code and free delivery!

DD is asleep wearing a vest then sleep suit and in a sleeping bag.

she wears that to bed almost all the time unless its exceptionally hot

For a March baby i would buy short sleeved bodysuits (no legs) and then babygrows to put over the top, plus some cardigans and if it is cold in March as it often is, I'd get a snowsuit for walks in the pram. Perhaps get some long sleeved vests to put under the babygrows too for colder days if spring is slow coming next year. Definitely not short legs in March.
If you want to do "outfits" rather than babygrows all day and night then you are looking at short sleeved bodysuit, pair of jersey trousers, long sleeved top and a little cardigan over the top.
For nights you will either need to swaddle over vest+babygrow with a light blanket, or use a 2.5 tog sleeping bag over vest+babygrow.

Thanks guys. U have a point about me not wearing shorts. Leggings would be ok wouldn't they? I guess u work it out as u go along

Leggings might well be fine it depends what the weather is like. March is often cold so stuff that you can layer is a good bet.

lisa2104 · 30/11/2012 21:40

I have like leg less bodysuits so I can use them and put trousers or leggings on then

Vests and sleep suits (get the ones with integral feet and scratch mit). Plus cardigan for colder days. And defo a pram suit for taking him out- ideally with a hood.

Really for a newborn babygrows and a vest day and night is easiest - save the outfits for when they are a little bit bigger and just get a few multipacks of sleepsuits. Newborns spend half the day sleeping anyway.

Yy to supermarket Muslins... Get a shed load! I've always been told to dress baby in one more layer than you're wearing, it's worked pretty well for us so far. I bought loads of bundles of newborn clothes for pennies on eBay, amazing condition as they're hardly worn - DS was out of them by 3 weeks but it gave me an idea as to what works for us clothes wise before I bought new for bigger sizes. E.g - we love sleepsuits that popper down the front and legs.. Ones that do up just at the bottom or worse at the back are a hassle!!

PeshwariNaan · 01/12/2012 12:13

I'm giving birth in January and have got 10 longsleeved vests in size newborn and 0-3 months, and a similar amount of sleepsuits in those sizes. I just picked them up at Sainsburys on special or were given them as hand-me-downs. I also have a couple of fleece sleep sacks by Baby Boum on sale from Amazon. Sleeping bags without arms are also good...

Cardigans are good (also Sainsburys), and we were given a newborn pramsuit for trips outside...

Make sure you've got socks, mitts, and a couple of hats for wearing outside as well.

John Lewis muslins are the best, I've used asda, sainsbury, mothercare and tesco but JL ones are much softer and have lasted alot longer.

When you buy sleepsuits id recommend only ones with integral scratch mittens as they cover your babys hand to keep them warmer. I found sainsburys ones really good

tamster83 · 02/12/2012 07:02

owwww I love mother care sleepsuits . and again the integrated mitt 1r the best esp as it will be cold I'm also due in march. the short 1s I only ever use in the hight of summer . I've never used the Muslim squares so wouldn't know about them but I presume the supermarket 1s will probably be the best esp as the baby's only gonna be sick on them..

HenriettaTurkey · 02/12/2012 07:09

Yy integrated scratch mitts!

Baby vest
Babygrow
Sleeping bag £12 from Asda. Great buy!
Snow suit (or bear suit as we call them in our house!)

You'll probably get 'outfits' as gifts at which point you'll realise just how practical babygrows are!

Muslins from tesco. Or mothercare on 3 for 2.

All the best!

HarlettHoHoHoScara · 02/12/2012 07:36

Ikea muslins are really good quality.

My DD is 5 months old and I still only dress her in outfits if we're going out somewhere. If we're going to be at home most of the day/just nipping to the local shops, she just wears a sleepsuit because they're comfy and practical and she looks so cute in them :)

IceNoSlice · 02/12/2012 10:27

Another tip I'd say- don't get too much 'newborn' size stuff. DS was 9lbs3 and could only fit in the tiny stuff for a week! Although you might get a teeny one, in which case they would be wearing it for ages. Better to get some stuff in, but plan/budget to buy a couple more packs (or send someone else to buy them!!) when your LO arrives.
