Hi all,

Can anyone give me any idea how I can stop feeling nauseated. I have morning sickness all day, Im not actually sick but I am retching ALOT! Its really starting to get me down, Im only 7 weeks. I have tried ginger but that makes me gag, just the smell of it has me retching. I have also tried dry cream crackers but that doesnt seem to work either.

Please help :)

Can you eat anything? It sounds v. bad for you

Jenjen85 · 30/11/2012 09:44

I'm exactly the same pov

Jenjen85 · 30/11/2012 09:49

Sorry stupid phone!!! I'm exactly the same, I can only manage bits of toast. I have tried ginger and it doesn't work for me either. The dr gave me some anti sickness tablets that kind of work sometimes. Try crisps just plain salt an shake (no salt) they sometimes work for me. I'm 8wks 6days an I'm hoping it starts to ease off soon. Hope you start to feel better soon

TinkyPeet · 30/11/2012 09:50

Just use trial and error to find something that settles it. With my first it was quavers that kept sickness at bay, with my second I was horrendously ill and found that sucking small ice cubes and salt and vinegar crisps made it better for a little while, sickness not yet started this time round yet but when it does i guess ill have to find a cure all over again lol. hope you feel better soon x

soscared2012 · 30/11/2012 09:52

Can you manage a slice of toast? I am living off slices of thick white toastie bread once every couple of hours as it is all I can manage at the moment. Not very healthy but it helps me with the gagging.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 30/11/2012 09:59

I think you have to keep trying until you find something that works for you (and be prepared that it may be different the next day)
Things that worked for me at various points:
Ritz cheesy biscuits
Grapes
Fizzy drinks
Jelly sweets
Brown bread (but not toasted for me!)

ChocolateCoins · 30/11/2012 10:03

Try and eat whatever you fancy. Even if it is chocolate and burgers. You just need to find 'your thing' that helps. Sucking Ice cubes and hard sweets can help too. Try not to think about it too much. I know thats much easier said than done, but thinking about it will make it worse. I really feel for you because I'm exactly the same. 24/7 sickness for the last 4 weeks. Doesnt help that my dd still wakes up at night and I feel sick when I have to get up to her.

The worst thing is having an empty stomach so really try to eat something. Flat coke can also help too I've heard?

Sorry for the huge post!

I do feel for you - I had exactly the same - the trick is to keep eating (even though you don't feel like it). The nausea won't go away, but the hungrier you are, the worse it is. I also used to sip a lot of iced water which somehow seemed to help.

The nausea did ease off at about 13 or 14 weeks, but it is absolutely miserable while you're going through it.

The thing to comfort yourself with is that feeling sick is a good sign for the baby - a midwife told me it means the baby is well attached in there!! (And after 3 miscarriages where I'd only felt slightly 'off', this was indeed true).

Travel sickness bands!!! Get a pair and try them. THey helped me a lot. Sorry you're feeling so bad x

BraveLilBear · 30/11/2012 10:07

Hey Pocopearl,

I have zero advice, in fact came on to get some TLC myself. I'm 5+5 and have been feeling progressively sicker every day for the past week. This morning, I had to slow down my walk to work because I kept retching.

Have eaten a slice of go ahead type bar (like a garibaldi) and a colleague has gone to do a bacon sandwich run - I've even turned down coffee, which I never ever thought would happen - praying I can get the bacon sarnie down and it eases things.

So I hope you feel better soon... And I'm very interested in any pearls of wisdom on here!

nannyl · 30/11/2012 11:09

If you are really sick bear in mind you could be going the hyperemisis route.

in which case get to your dr, who will precsribe you medication...... if you get medication early enough you might not end up in hospital for rehydration

I have HG (for the second time)

the random things that i seem to be able eat this time (sometimes) are baked beans, brown bread, and cherry bakewells, and drink cartons of ribena with a straw (not ribena in a cup)

Jojoba1986 · 30/11/2012 11:26

I'm onto my second type of anti-nausea tablet now. The first ones helped a little with the nausea but didn't stop the dizziness. These ones do help more if I can swallow them without them getting stuck to the back of my tongue!

Things that have helped me over the last 11 weeks are: 7up, hot chocolate, pretzels, carrots (raw but not too often or you might have digestive issues!), mars bars, kitkats, mini cheddars... Now I'm 13 weeks & beginning to manage one small meal a day & the best things tend to be: potatoes (new/mashed), green beans, more carrots & unseasoned chicken breast.

Like others have said though, it's very much a personal thing so you do need to experiment a little until you find what works for you. If it's interfering with your necessary parts of life then do get yourself to the doctor! Hope it eases soon!

BraveLilBear · 30/11/2012 11:35

These tips are really useful, thanks. I am now collating a list of things that I fancy - as a rule, these tend to be the best so far! I'm going to have to get a can of 7-up at lunch now!

Quilty · 30/11/2012 11:56

Feel for everyone going through this, my nausea has been horrendous. I think eating little and often is the key and just whatever you fancy, don't worry about all the pregnancy diets. Your baby will get everything it needs from your reserves at this stage. I am 11 weeks and still very nauseated but I think I'm managing it better now.
Things I've found good to eat:
Toast (white bread, gone off brown bread for some reason)
Cereal
Soft cheese on crackers
Soup but only quite bland flavours, found veg cuppa soups good with some bread as quick to make which is essential when I had to hold my breath when going in the kitchen!
Fruit - lots of fruit , the juicier the better! Tinned peaches are amazing!
Jacket potato with a little bit of cheese ( be warned makes me so bloated!)
Yogurts
Cheese on toast (very mild cheddar)
Crisps
Raw carrots

Everyone's different, it will take a bit of trial and error. Good luck!

Rowan1204 · 30/11/2012 14:35

you have my total sympathy and you are not alone! I am 8 + 2 and really feeling it (pg with Twins but felt this bad with my DS 4 years back too!)
The nausea is soooo bad I can barely move from the bed or bathroom and have been working from home as I commute to central London for work and just simply cannot face it.

As others have said, the only thing that has got me through is just eating what I fancy, but someone recommended full fat coke, and its worked wonders. I felt my blood sugar leveles were dipping quite severely and this even resulted in some fainting, but the Coke just make it normal again and has also helped the sickness.

Also plain yogurt - I like that rachel's organic one, and bits of cereal but without the milk - when i did manage to get into work I had some chocolate magic stars in a cup and just kept picking at them! random but it did help.

Hopefully all of us will be getting over the worst soon x
