The next instalment in my underwear quest: tights (opaque) as I need some to wear under my new maternity lbd for a party next week. Any recommendations...?

Mothercare

RooneyMara · 29/11/2012 18:59

Mothercare too. Boots ones fall down all the time, MCare ones stay up. No contest!

Ellypoo · 29/11/2012 19:01

H&M ones are good too.

lotsofcheese · 29/11/2012 19:05

Debenhams - they have discount on at the moment too.

tiddleypompom · 29/11/2012 19:07

Second H&M. Nice woolly ones too.

LikeCandy · 29/11/2012 20:16

I was hoping someone would say Gap as I just ordered a pair!
Has anyone had these? Should I be returning them for a pair from mothercare?!

LillyofWinchester · 29/11/2012 22:30

A vote for h&m here too, really comfy

diyqueen · 29/11/2012 23:27

I wore my normal tights, just under the bump, I never understood what maternity tights are for...? Do some people like the over the bump kind?

Brugmansia · 29/11/2012 23:56

I've found h&m much better than the mothercare ones and they're cheaper too.

I much prefer the over bump tights too. I find them comfier and warmer now it's getting colder.

RooneyMara · 30/11/2012 07:08

DIYQueen, it depends on what else you wear I suppose - also I have worn mine under the bump, especially in the first 6 months or so, but tbh my hips seem to have widened now enough that they aren't very comfortable, and it would stretch them anyway, so I find the over bump ones much more comfortable. (35 weeks now)

And if you have trouble finding long enough tops that are fitted, and it's really cold, and you don't want a tunic thing or a frock just hanging there and leaving the lower half of your bump uncovered underneath it - then over bump ones are sadly necessary!

I guess you could wear an extra long maternity vest and tuck it in to your normal tights but that's a right old faff Smile

floatyjosmum · 30/11/2012 07:35

Mine. Are from mothercare and great. Had opaque a and wooly ones and both been good

FreeButtonBee · 30/11/2012 14:13

I have been wearing M&S 100 denier secret support tights - am normally a medium but 29 wk twin PG bump now takes an XL. They are v supportive, cover bump entirely and are 6 quid. I find they stay up even better if I wear a fine cotton vest tucked into them (sexy, non?).

KatoPotatoHoHo · 30/11/2012 14:16

Buy normal tights a size bigger and wear 'back to front' with the double seem over the bump!

kate2boysandabump · 30/11/2012 14:18

I vote for H&M. The Mothercare ones are wearing out already Angry Good job they only have to last a bit longer Grin

CityDweller · 30/11/2012 15:45

Thanks for tips. I got a pair each from m&s and mothercare today - hopefully they'll do me

Found non-maternity tights so uncomfortable that thought they might sever a blood vessel. Mine are from Mothercare - the Bloomin' Marvellous ones. Very comfy bump panel.

Do wish someone would invent a machine to get them on me, though!

ivanapoo · 30/11/2012 18:39

Mine are H&M. Am tight so only bought one pair so they've been through the wash loads and still look and fit ok, I find them v comfortable. Saw some nice woolly knit ones in there too.

Gintonic · 30/11/2012 18:45

Every make I tried was absolute rubbish, so I just wore leggings.

Buy normal tights in a larger size. Or hold ups. Maternity tights always fall down on me !

Jojoba1986 · 30/11/2012 19:36

I've not tried it personally but apparently putting a second pair of knickers over maternity tights keeps them up if they're prone to falling down! Smile

ohfunnyface · 30/11/2012 19:56

H and M for me too!

Have the grey thick knit ones- lovely!

If you go Mothercare don't go up a size from what you usually would buy. I made this mistake as I thought I'd gained weight and ended up with big baggy tights! Once I got the right size they were very comfy though.

diyqueen · 30/11/2012 22:38

Thanks rooneymara, I always wondered... I think I was fortunate to have a pretty small bump last time (stretchy tops still covered it fine)!
