Thrush - without symptoms? TMI, sorry

Just occurred to me that I think the MW I saw yesterday was probably wrong in her diagnosis/suggestion, but I wanted to check...

can you have thrush without any symptoms, especially during the third trimester of pregnancy?

I've had a suspected fluid leak for a few weeks and basically, yesterday was told I have a lot of discharge, this took a few seconds to ascertain with a plastic speculum. And they think it is probably just thrush causing me to have fairly wet or damp underwear, several times a day, that doesn't look remotely like discharge and is pretty much like water.

In fact I'm not really getting much discharge at all - occasionally some that is whitish, you know, the normal stuff you get but barely enough to notice, certainly not the thick stuff you get with thrush, well I normally do.

Also I have no soreness, no itching, no burning and no irritation.

My own MW isn't happy and wants me to have another scan next week - which is great, as I had one yesterday morning and it showed low fluid. Thus being sent to see someone at the daycare place last night.

Anyway - simple question really, can it be thrush if it doesn't look, or feel like thrush and is causing me no discomfort?

Thankyou if you got this far!

Yes you can. In my first pregnancy I had normal thrush a few times, but I was also once checked out at the day assessment unit for pinkish spotting, which turned out to be caused by thrush high in my uterus.

Actually, thinking aboutit, I previously had a long term thrush issues, with it sometimes being symptomless and not visible on a basic swab, but when cultures were sent off for testing, they diagnosed a significant colony of thrush bacteria (or whatever the right collective noun is) high up. Thankfully rarely had it since first childbirth, but when I did I would usually be "wet" before full symptoms hit. It might not be thrush, but as long as nothing worrying is happening, just be grateful you are not feeling the itchy burn Grin

Yes I had the same as thumper. I had spotting at 30 weeks and had to have an internal exam and they discovered I'd got thrush very high up too.
I was mortified as I hadn't noticed any symptoms and I'm a nurse! Smile

Oh crikey...looks like they could have been right then! How embarrassing.

Well in that case I'd better use the pessary thing they recommended and treat it so I don't pass it on to the baby when it's born.

Still having another scan as that doesn't explain the low fluid - but anyway. I've learned something today!

Thankyou everyone x

Just realised I wrote high in my uterus. Erm, that would be where the baby was! I meant cervix, of course. Good luck for the scan.
