Anterior placenta?!

Am 18+4 with DC2. Still haven't felt any movements and MW always struggles to find heartbeat (I had a scan at 16weeks because of this!) she has suggested I could have an anterior placenta and briefly explained that I probably won't feel movement until baby is much bigger. I feel cheated!!
Only have a small bump which is still well hidden under my less than trim waistline and since all the sickness passed I haven't really 'felt' pregnant. When I was at this stage of pregnancy with DS I relied on the flutters in my tummy to convince myself that I was actually pregnant!
Anyone know how long it will be before I start to feel anything?! Obviously I know it varies from person to person. TIA

I felt my DS from 16 weeks with a posterior placenta. This time I have an anterior, and didn't feel anything until past my 20 week scan.

I have anterior and felt movements from about 17 weeks, everyone is different and it depends where on the front wall your placenta is, high or low or off to one side.

I have an anterior placenta and have only just started feeling things within the last week (I'm 23 weeks today), its not always strong and sometimes I'll go a long time feeling nothing. My husband has yet to feel anything!!

I panicked a lot but it'll happen!!

Xxx

I've an anterior placenta this time but felt movements from 14 weeks, just have a blanker patch. This is my fourth and you tend to feel earlier with each one, if it's your first you may be feeling & not recognising.

I had an anterior placenta and didn't feel convincing movements til 24 weeks

I am 21+6 with anterior placenta and have felt slight tapping feeling a few times a day over the last couple of days.

i feel a bit cheated as well! especially as i am really stressed due to all my previous pg's ending in mc. a bit more movement would really reassure me.

I'm 22+1 with DC1 with an anterior placenta and have been feeling movement every day for about 2 weeks now. I feel they are getting stronger and more definitive each time I feel them, though can't yet be felt from the outside.

I also felt massively cheated - particularly as this is my first and I was so looking forward to the whole bonding experience through feeling baby move. But it does happened, it just takes a while and in the early stages is perhaps a bit more muffled feeling.

I have an anterior placenta but felt mine from 11 weeks. I'm 20 weeks on first preganacy now and feel movement daily and there's a pattern now.
I was ill with hyperemesis when I first felt it so the reasons why I felt it I think is because a) I'd lost a lot of weight b) I wasn't able to do a lot so was laying still all day and night.
I feel it best when I'm laying on my back and very relaxed with my hands resting gently on my tummy. Try and be as relaxed as you can.
Even though my placenta is anterior I feel movements all over now but in the beginning it was only at the sides.

I have an anterior placenta too and felt a tingling of movement last week at 16+5 but nothing really since. I manage to get a heartbeat on our Doppler okay but have been well warned I won't feel strong movement until about 20 weeks. Sad

I Am 31 weeks with anterior placenta and at times I get 'interior' movements that are very much subtler, depending on foetal position I suppose but sometimes I get those huge Loch Ness monster rolls across my belly like I did with my other dcs.

Not as many strong punches and kicks as with the others either, I think you get to recognise the tiny tickles and nudges as baby movements more with an anterior placenta.

Hopefully you'll get a good look soon at your 20 weeks scan!

MrsMarigold · 03/12/2012 10:50

I had this with both of my DCs and never felt my DS move at all until the day before he was born! Both are unbelievably active and wriggly children and the doctors commented on both occasions that they had exceptional muscle tone.

The scans were so hopeless with my DD that I binned the pics - with my DS I had a very fancy 4D scan at 24 weeks and that was very clear.

I have an anterior placenta and felt little movements at 16 weeks and the last week or so (22 weeks today) have been a lot stronger. Now she's laying near my bladeder as I nearly wet myself yesterday. It depends a lot on whether her feet are down there or her head though as to whether I feel her movements strong or barely at all, perhaps the feet are kicking at the placenta which is blocking it's way to your stomach so you don't really feel it?

Hi

I have an anterior placenta also and this is my first baby. I felt movement from about 20 -22 weeks with definite movement from about 24 weeks. They are definitely more like bubbles at the early stages but from about 24 weeks on, more like muffled kicks? I actually don't mind as some mums to be have told me the kicks can be quite sore if you have a posterior placenta so am quite glad of my placenta providing me with extra padding :) I'm 33 weeks now and can now see my stomach move etc and have done probably for past 4-6 weeks so don't worry - everything you are describing sounds right.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!
