Hi I'm 14 weeks and am getting horrendous back ache already all over my lower back and upper back and sometimes shoots into my bum and down my right leg. It's really getting to me. Is this normal this is dc2 so I'm already got a bump showing. But still I'm not massive. Any advice xxx

I've bought a pregnancy pillow and it's really helped, it supports your hips and bump. I had shooting pains too and painful lower back and would say it's 80%better after a few days.

I had some lower back pain in early pregnancy. But then I realised I should probably stop carrying dd1 (29 months) around. Back pain pretty much stopped and only comes back if I do carry her for more than a minute or two.

Would really recommend looking into antenatal Pilates. It's great for backs. Plus if you're only 14 weeks now there will be lots you can do, so you should be able to build strength ready to reduce problems that may increase further down the line.

That's everyone ill try the pillow and the Pilates. Just finding it hard to sleep as can't sleep on one side cos it hurts and I'm worried I'm only 14 weeks how am I going to be later!! Ahhh scary thought with DD1 I had siatica sorry can't spell it and remember it being awful xx

I suffered with backache and sciatica really early on too, I think about 16 weeks, I was horrified because I was sure all that stuff wouldn't happen until much much later on in the pregnancy!!

My lovely hubby bought me an E shaped pregnancy pillow, which really eased the strain whilst sleeping. Plus if you just look up some simple exercises on strengthing your back whilst pregnant, there's loads of really gentle stuff you can do to begin tightening those muscles for when you have a lovely big bump :)

Ask your GP (not midwife - they seem not to be bothered ime) to refer you for physiotherapy. Ask now and it might happen in time to prevent it getting worse.

I'm 34 weeks with bad SPD (well it's probably only moderate but feels bad to me!) and wish I had known this earlier, it's too late really now, for me, and my MW that I kept asking just said, Oh, it's normal, you're old Smile

I'm in some serious pain at times and nights are pretty hard work.
Apparently physio is brill x

I was in agony at 15 weeks, was prescribed codeine which did nothing except make me feel sick and spaced out. I was at the end of my tether. Then I started ante-natal yoga and, no word of a lie, I was all but cured within a few days.
I heartily recommend!

I've had really bad back ache at the top, started swimming last week and it's really started to help. x
