Scary hunger

I'm not sure if this is a symptom of pregnancy or not but thought I'd ask just in case.
I had finished breakfast at 9am this morning (bran flakes, yoghurt and a satsuma) but at 11.30am I started to feel hungry. Not just peckish but seriously hungry. I was shaking, sweating and felt really weak and sick. It took 10-15 mins after eating again to start to feel normal again. Tbh though I'm still a little bit shaky now.
I'm 18+3 and haven't had this before today has anyone else had this?
It was really scary and if possible I'd like to avoid it happening again.
Thanks :)

Yes! I had it earlier in pregnancy every now and then & for the past 2 weeks have felt like that if I've gone 2 hours without food. Have been having scans every other week due to small baby & have been told at todays scan baby has had a massive growth spurt. I think that's why I've been needing to eat more, baby has been taking more than before, may be a similar thing for you. Keep snacking! Some fruit every couple of hours (bananas have been best for me) or some nuts, making sure you eat before you really need to!

Sounds fairly normal. I tend to eat a much larger breakfast - muesli, with almonds, yoghurt and a banana plus one toast and an egg. Anything less leaves me starving hungry an hour later. Try to have a snack with some protein in between meals if you are feeling like this.

I had this all the way through my first trimester, I'd think I was full and then be hit by sudden ravenous hunger. You just have to keep snacking all day, nuts and nibbles didn't really do it for me, I had to eat something substantial every couple of hours.

They do say you don't actually need any extra calories in early pregnancy but I stuffed everything I could lay my hands on into my face and didn't gain any weight early on, so I disagree and think we DO need it.

I'm 21+4 and if I don't eat every two hours I go dizzy and vomit. It's not like morning sickness, I'm literally sick with hunger. I eat a big breakfast as soon as I wake up and then every couple of hours I have a snack.

Luckily, I only teach afternoons, so I eat just before the kids come in from lunch and as soon as they go home!

Try to have plenty of protein & complex carbohydrates (along with usual good amount of fruit & veg & calcium), basically think along the lines of low GI. Not for weight loss, obviously, but the kind of low GI plan that's good for sustaining energy. I found egg based breakfasts were amazing how they'd set me up for the day - omelettes are v quick to make & you can pack in some tasty veg too! If you can't stomach egg first thing, perhaps baked beans on wholemeal toast? It's good to snack between meals too, but again try to avoid too many high sugars & include some protein, eg bread/wholegrain crackers with cheese, couscous/quinoa salad with beans in, fruit (berries in particular are lower GI than some other fruits) & nuts, veg sticks with houmous or a yoghurt based dip, a salad with fish (like tuna nicoise).

Yes. This was before I did the preg test. I was so hungry, so suddenly that it was worrying. Generally hunger creeps up, this was full whack fine to starving in 5 mins. Lasted through first trimester and was ok after that.

Oh thank god it's normal! I was panicking thinking I had GD :(. So glad it's normal.
Snacking sounds like a good plan, hopefully it'll help :).
Thank you x
