Hi all,
I've got my 12 week scan tomorrow. I'm very nervous and hoping all is well. This is 3rd pregnancy but 1st baby, so a little anxious but also excited too. Especially as I have a proper little belly now. Anyway, can anyone tell me approximately how much a scan picture costs so I can get my cash out tonight?
Thank you Thanks

I had my 12 week scan on Monday and it was free (in Manchester). There was a machine in the waiting area and we thought we would have to pay, but when the sonographer brought out the completed notes she just gave us the photo and didn't suggest we needed to pay.

princesschick · 28/11/2012 15:14

Wow! Loads of responses! Thanks ever so!

Based on MN averages we'll be good to go with change from a twenty tomorrow (and hopefully have some left over for cake after). My purse is gonna weigh a tonne! Thanks for all of your responses. I'm in Sussex BTW. Can't believe how much these things vary from hospital to hospital.

Oh and magicpainting so sorry to hear of your experience. This is exactly the sort of thing I'm scared about but I'm also prepared. Long term TTC and 2 (poss 3) MCs prepare you for bad news and I have low expectations..but still a excited if that makes any sense at all? So please don't apologise. And I'm sorry that they refunded your money like that. Sadly, I could start a whole other thread on how awful some medical professionals can be when dealing with very distressing situations.

£1.50 each here, but I've had 3 scans at two different hospitals, always asked where to pay and have always been told not to worry about it by the sonographer. We've had between two and about six photos each time. I love those sonographers! Grin

ksrwr · 28/11/2012 16:31

£10 here

princesschick I had two MCs and conceived DD through my fourth round of IVF treatment. My heart is in my mouth reading your posts and I'm wishing you so much luck for tomorrow. I had my 12 week scan at the Harris Birthright Centre at King's in London and they were so nice they gave us a ton of photos for free once they'd heard our story. I think we paid a couple of pounds at the 20 week scan and for that we got a bunch of 2D photos and some 3D ones. They didn't warn me they were going to do a 3D picture and I shouted "Bloody hell" much to DH's embarrassment when DD's face appeared on screen. The funny thing is it really does look like her! Even now as a chubby 7 mo old.

The doctor did have to say "Calm Down" at the 12 week scan the first time she took my blood pressure as it was 156/90 :) I was so nervous.

Please come back and let us know how you got on! xx

Suggested donation of a pound here (in Edinburgh) and we got about four photos each time. Can't believe how much it varies!

GlaikitFizzog · 28/11/2012 16:37

There were signs up I the waiting roo asking for donations, but no one asked us or told us where to put the money.

We are in Scotland btw.

PickleSarnie · 28/11/2012 16:37

Ours were £3 or £4 each I think. Second time around we only got one after getting carried away the first time around but then I had loads of bleeding so had quite a few extra scans and they didn't charge us for pictures then. That was in Leicester.

Hope it all goes brilliantly for you tomorrow!

DinosaursOnAnAdventCalender · 28/11/2012 16:38

£5 at my hospital.

I bought a token before my 12 week scan but they gave me the photos free, I tried to give in my token at my 20 and 28 week scan but again got given the photos free. I'm going to try and use it at my 34 week scan.

All the photos have been really bad and not recognisable as a baby though as he has been in an awkward position each time which us why I got them free I think.

weeblueberry · 28/11/2012 16:58

Oh I feel a bit Blush now as we're in Edinburgh and didn't donate anything! Mind we weren't at Simpsons - it was at some dinky wee hospital in Haddington. I'm pretty sure there weren't notices up? Hmm..

Paradisefound · 28/11/2012 17:36

£5, given 4 or 5 photos each time, each photo bit different. Needed £1 coins to get a token.

Paradisefound · 28/11/2012 17:37

Should of said I'm in Sussex too. Scanned at Crawley hospital, where they have great scanning equipment.

Kelerina · 28/11/2012 17:51

Am in Scotland too and was nothing for us!

mine was 5 pound for 2 congrats and hope everything is well

thursdaynight · 28/11/2012 18:25

When did they start charging for scan pictures !?

Notmyidea · 28/11/2012 18:40

£10 for 3 images here. The sonographer advised us to wait for the 20 week one for better images. When we explained that dd1 and 2 had been promised one to take into school she gave us two images and wouldn't take anything for them.

12ylnon · 28/11/2012 18:59

Free for us this time which i was a nice surprise. £10 for three photos last time.

kellestar · 28/11/2012 20:13

£10 for 3 photos here as well. Currently 19+5 with DC2. Never paid for any last time, though they said they should, they said images were bad, came out with quite a few each time. Had quite a few scans as DD was small for dates. This one is an awkward little monkey and we have one picture of spine and bum and that's it. Hoping that it's in a better position for my scan tomorrow.

congratulations xx

Dandelion75 · 28/11/2012 20:27

Never occurred to me there would be a charge! I've had 3 scans now, and photo's were just handed over at the end with no suggestion of a charge. Bargain!

elliejjtiny · 28/11/2012 20:45

£6 for 1 photo here, although they gave me a photo of DC4 free when I had a missed miscarriage and DS1 when I had an early scan for bleeding.

AgathaTrunchbull · 28/11/2012 21:47

£5, but we only paid for the first lot (there were loads of them included for the money). The second time, the clearly lovely sonographer left a few in my notes, which we didn't actually see until we went to the next appointment!

lurcherlover · 28/11/2012 21:54

£4 per pic here (NW), with the most annoying token machine ever which only takes pound coins and occasional 50p pieces. We only get one image too - obviously you can buy as many copies as you want, but they will all be of the same, identical image. It was a novelty having a private scan in this pregnancy and getting lots of images of baby doing different positions!

lurcherlover · 28/11/2012 21:56

Yes, they did also give me a free photo when I had a mmc. There is a sign up in our clinic telling you not to purchase scan tokens until after your scan, I assume to make sure you don't pay in advance for either really blurry pics or in the rare case of getting bad news. I didn't have to ask for a pic of the baby I lost, she just gave me one straight away and there was no question of me having to pay for it.

MrsEddChina · 28/11/2012 22:03

Ours were £2.50 each. At my 12 week scan we got 7 photos, all a bit different. At my 20 week scan we asked for 10 photos (first baby, lots of relatives) and the sonographer just gave us the same photo 10 times. Was very Angry.
