Ok, anything I should or should'nt be doing with a low placenta?

So had my 20 week scan last week to be told that all is well with baby but that I have to go back to be scanned at 36 weeks due to a low lying placenta, to see if it has moved upwards. All I was given was a leaflet explaining I am at risk of bleeding which terrifies me obviously and that is it? Any experience of this out there ?

I had the same at my 20wk scan with my first, and had nO problems at all and carried on as normal. Infact I think you have been given more info than I was. Good luck and try to enjoy your pregnancy

Same here. Low at 20 weeks and moved by scan date. As long as it wasn't covering the cervix I think they generally move up as the uterus grows.

You can't make it move so just forget about it and look forward to an extra scan to see baby again at 36 weeks!

thank you ladies, that is reassuring! just wish they would give you a bit more info at the time!

I had it too at 20 weeks. It took a while to move but it did move enough to be no longer a worry. I was told no sex, while it was still low. Other than that I just pootled about as normal. I didn't have any bleeding or anything.

Well I read online no sex (not that I am having much anyway!). But was not told this in my notes? Had no bleeding so far, did you all go on to have normal births?

I wasn't told to avoid sex (but it hasn't proven to be much of an issue anyway!)

Two weeks to go before I can tell you if a normal birth. But I've certainly been told its fine to plan for normal delivery. Fingers crosses it will be.

I had a c-section, but completely unrelated to the placenta position. (pre-eclampsia).

Ozziegirly · 28/11/2012 05:21

Same - low lying (and long apparently) at 20 weeks, told I would be re-scanned at 36. I haven't been as I am booked in for a c-section anyway in a week and a half.

The only thing I was told to watch for was bleeding - but I'd probably have "watched for" that in any event....

Fairylea · 28/11/2012 05:27

Bit off topic but they only found out I had this during the c section I'd booked in for other reasons! Completely missed on all scans.. I'd had no symptoms whatsoever,no bleeding so I'd carried on working and having sex and everything else..... !

Just take it easy and don't be afraid to speak to your midwives if you need to.
