Hi, I have first scan this afternoon.
Due to muck up by midwife at first appt with her I have had no bloods taken yet and meant to have them done today, she tore off the paperwork for me to take with me but never gave me the actual paperwork. Can they still take the bloods (this was meant to be done when I met with midwife previously).

Is there anything else I need to know when going, I would normally get a letter but phoned for appt as midwife didn't change my address from over 8 years ago so phoned to check if had right address (they didnt) thus appt over phone, usually by letter.

I recall im meant to have a full bladder, is there anything else.

I have 2 urine sample bottles, do I take them, or are these for my next appt with midwife?

Gah, panicking, just don't want any delays in tests as am 37.

Hiya!
How exciting!!! Grin

Bloods i dont think are important to your scan at all, neither will they check your wee. Its JUST for a scan this appointment.

Full bladder yes, other than that, just get youreself there and meet your baby! Smile
Get everything done at your next midwife appointment.
Midwife will have all the blood cards/paperwork etc that you will need so dont worry.
Make sure that you check with her that she has your correct address now...also when you have had your scan, you will need to make an appointment for your 20 week scan so make sure that they have your correct contact details there too.

All the best!

Thank you, I am excited and scared at the same time, just want everything to be ok, i'll be getting a nuchal scan if in time frame for one, I thought they needed to bloods for the risk??
Ok full bladder and just get there on time Smile

I had to give a urine sample at mine and had blood tests done for the nuchal scan Smile Full bladder is a pain though!

ladymia · 27/11/2012 10:57

I had bloods done at my 12 week scan.

I would mention to them when they take your blood that these should also be sent for the tests to be done that are usually done at your booking in appt. Otherwise they will only test for the DS risk?

nananaps · 27/11/2012 10:59

Ahh sorry didnt see you were talking about nuchal scan.

12 weeks scan is a usual dating scan but for nuchal they do need the bloods for probability i think. Dont know, no experience.
(I didnt go for nuchal or bloods, i went straight for amnio)

As nananaps said a full bladder is helpful so that it makes the scan easier.

If your area offers the nuchal test at the scan then I believe they will also take a blood sample because its a combined test that measures the nuchal bit and looks for hormones in your blood. (but in my case since baby wasn't cooperating for the scan measurement they didn't take the blood)

I did have to provide a urine sample, but I noticed other people didn't so they were given a pot to fill there and then. I have a few spare pots from the midwife because I get the impression that each time I meet the midwife they check urine and do blood pressure.

I had time with a midwife after the scan and he talked me through the results of the previous bloods - I guess if you have this you can remind them that your blood tests have not yet been taken and they may take them there and then.

Good luck today and hope all goes well. Yesterdays scan was one of the highlights - couldn't believe how lovely it was to see baby bouncing around.

Hope I'm not too late; I didn't have bloods taken at my first appointment because she physically couldn't get them any from me. I just told the woman on reception when I got there that I also needed blood taking and they did it after my scan. This seemed to work ok although I didn't have the ds/nuchal thing so not sure if having them done then would have effected that in any way.

Hi, back from scan, a very wriggly little thing Grin
Too early for nuchal, only 10w 6d.
Going for it a week on thurs which she says is the best time as any later and baby can be vertical which makes it impossible and bloods will be taken then.

How lovely!!! its surprising isn't it how wriggly they are - and you get the bonus of another scan in a week to see him or her again!

CityDweller · 28/11/2012 03:10

Mine sat there like a big (or rather very little) pudding at the 12-wk scan. With its legs crossed in the most awkward position. I hope this isn't a sign of future attitude!
