Wythenshawe midwife team

Hi, I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I wondered if anyone else had any experience of the midwife team at Wythenshawe? I'm finding it almost impossible to get through to anyone to ask questions (midwife line is constantly engaged or on answerphone and you can't leave a message). I tried about 15 times last week with no luck. When I did get through today, the midwife was extremely unhelpful and didn't put me at ease at all. Wondering if I've made the wrong choice with this hospital? Is there anyone else you can call for general advice? Any advice appreciated.

Hello,

I'm having my baby at wythenshawe but my midwife is based in partington, if you have already tried the community midwife at wythenshawe and getting no where and your worried about something I would mayne contact your GP see if they can help you? x

I've had good experiences of them, so don't lose heart. I think there is usually someone available to answer the number for Community midwives during the day until about 4.30pm, but if you get no answer, try the triage number if you are worried about anything. I'm assuming you have all these numbers, but if not, let me know and I will PM you later from home as I don't have my notes with me.

Thanks for the advice - it's my first baby and very nervous! I was naive in thinking I'd get to see the same midwife but it seems there are lots and its pot luck each time. It wasn't an important question, I have a blood test at 16 wks as they couldn't do the DS test at 12 and wanted to know if I still needed a midwife appointment. Just getting anxious in case I really do need to get through in the future and its almost impossible- apparently they're very short staffed and one (rude) person on the phone. Trying GP is a good idea Amelia and if its something serious then Triage. Thanks for the help x

If I have problems getting through to the midwives then I call the post natal ward they are usually helpful - still hard to get hold of but if you try ringing between the 2 you can get someone.
I would also complain if someone is being rude you are just looking out for your health and your baby. I had a rude doctor which meant after a bleed I didn't go in as I didn't want to see the doctor with my first- luckily I was OK but this could have been a worse outcome all because they made me feel uncomfortable.
Goodluck and congrats on your pregnancy. x x

Hi, im in Partington and had boy3 at Wythenshaw 10 weeks ago on the MW led unit.

It was an amazing experience and the MW's were fab. The community MW's too were brilliant and I love them Grin

If your pg has been straightforward and you go into labour naturally then you may go into the mw led unit in the pool.

If you get induced then you'll go upstairs. That, I cant comment on personally. Ive heard mixed reviews of both and it is a very busy ward.

I had my last 2 at Wigan and had both good and bad experiences.

Good luck!!!
