Really bad back, sometimes can't walk!

I'm 26 weeks with second child & am fully aware that I'm not taking as good care of myself this time round when it comes to things like not lifting too much etc but can't really help it as I have 18 month old toddler!

Past few days my back has been seizing up really badly. It's a strange pain in that there's no area I can ask DH to massage to ease it or anything. It's as though the muscles in my back are all giving up & if I remain perfectly still then the pain is ok but when I try to walk I have to kind of one step at a time lunge/shuffle along through really bad pain until I manage to loosen things up. It comes & goes too which is confusing. Last night I was in really bad pain & couldn't walk so had to crawl to bed, yet today I've been fine picking up DD all day as normal & even walked 45 mins with her to take her swimming.

I don't feel this is an injury or anything & don't like idea of taking painkillers so don't really want to bother the dr unless anyone thinks he could help?

Btw my DD was back to back/transverse the whole pregnancy then a horrific back to back labour so I don't know if that could be an indication that I carry stubborn babies that like to lie in a way that hurts mummy's back??

Any advice gratefully received. I'm too busy to have a sore back!

I should add I'm back to shuffling along again within 30 mins of DH arriving home to help with bathtime - strangely timed pain only been really bad so far when I have help with DD. Does my body want me to literally never ever sit down/stop running around??

I am so sorry that you are feeling awful. I fell at week 30 and was in absolute agony until week 36. I found myself crawling once and doing the simplest task, like standing up, stretching, getting out the car absolutely awful. To get out of bed would take five minutes and I had to hold onto the wall. I don't know that this was because I fell but it certainly didn't help. At week 36 I started my maternity leave and slept a lot. I quickly felt much better and was more mobile than I ever anticipated being. If you possibly can is there a way you can minimise your work load for a bit? Even stop doing things like making the bed or having convenience food (or even better could someone else do the cooking?) to give you a chance to rest. Honestly, I turned in to a geriatric and whilst I am not exactly speedy at the moment (I am 41 +1) I am not in pain like I was. If it doesn't improve I would bother your doctor with it. Apart from anything I think your head space suffers because you are frustrated about how little you can achieve and, in my experience anyway, I didn't like not being able to cope.
