I am preggers!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dd is 5, so it's all a bit weird. I just wondered if anyone can tell me the procedures etc as I cant remember, e.g when should I go to doctors , book first scan etc. I'm living in Spain so I'm trying to decide which way to go, Private state or Gibraltar.

erm....booking in appointment at approx 8 weeks?
\link{http://www.babycentre.co.uk/refcap/536334.html\this might help?}

Nbg · 03/04/2006 14:51

Congratulations Lucy! Smile

Just ring your GP's and they will get you a booking in appt around 8/9 weeks.
You'll probably get a scan at 12 weeks and then have your next midwife appt at 15 weeks in case you want to have the triple test.

Thanks, so ive got a few weeks to investigate the various options open to me here in Spain.

how are you feeling physically?

I feel so unbelievably awful that I think it can't be right!!! Just want to hide in bed all day today - am so totally exhausted and sick. I would expect booking in to be done nearer 12 weeks. A lot of midwives aren't interested in you until you are viable if you see what I mean (ie; over the worst miscarriage few weeks). Are you ok with the language there?

MadameDeMars · 03/04/2006 15:15

Congratulations Grin

lucy5 · 03/04/2006 15:17

I feel fine, early days though. Just a bit queasy now and again but my clothes are already too tight which is weird. Im ok with the language, it's just Spanish procedures that worry me!

Hope you feel better soon desperatehw! Smile

Thanks Hausfrau and congratulations on the move!!!!

Lucy - I'm in maternity clothes Shock !!
Can't bear to be uncomfy at this stage.

lucy5 · 03/04/2006 15:23

In Spain, they routinely shave and give you an episotomy [sp] and dont have gas and air!

desperatehousewife · 03/04/2006 15:24

oh dear god! Shall i post you some pethadine?!!

lucy5 · 03/04/2006 15:25

I dont remember feeling this bloated with dd! It's weird I wonder why?

desperatehousewife · 03/04/2006 15:26

i think the symptoms generally are more intense with each pregnancy - so you get bigger quicker and can feel sicker or have worse heartburn etc.

suzywong · 03/04/2006 15:27

Oh hurrah!

Chandra · 03/04/2006 15:30

I would go to private (I don't know the state system so do not know how things work). I did considered going all the way over there for DS birth.

I would book an appointment if you are more than 6 weeks pregnant, you would be treated by the gyn or an obstetrician and will have several scans (every 4-6 weeks). It's a very different style of pre natal care over there, but don't panic, is definitively not worse to what you would get in the UK, just different. You would be fine, now, midwives may be more an auxiliary addition to the care rather than the main carer, which is not a bad thing (unless you have strong feeling about having a midwife instead), both my gyns were LOVELY, I missed them dearly during DS's pregnancy.

Chandra · 03/04/2006 15:30

AND MANY CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! :)

lucy5 · 03/04/2006 15:45

Thanks Chandra, I have heard some very good things about our local Hospital.

Lucy, congratulations!

I had dd in marbella hosp, by the way. It is good, but they don't have gas and air. you might not need it for the second though! If you write a very simple birth plan, that says things like "epesiotomia, no, gracias" then they should stick to it. don't bother with private - it's the same care but with posher room-mates. If you get the irish midwife, remember me to her!
