Have I miscarried?

Hi
I am about 5 weeks pregnant! I had a brownish colour bleed for about an hour and then it stopped and I have had nothing since. Pregnancy tests say positive still. Do you think I have miscarried?? As I have discovered doing a tests are pointless as the hormone will still be in my body. Does it sound like a miscarriage to women out there who have been through it??

I had some brown bleeding on and off for the first few weeks (I'm now 34weeks). If you are not cramping and bleeding red then things are probably fine. Brown blood is old blood. I think you're still preggers.

Generally brown is better, bright red is more worrisome. But you can go to A&E and get yourself booked in for a scan to check things are ok. Fx for you.

Hi, sorry to read this post. You havn't necessarily miscarried: I had brown spotting throughout the first trimester with DD2.

Have you informed your GP yet (about the pregnancy?) Have you been assigned a midwife? I don't know if you can be scanned yet but it might be worth a shot.

Sincere best wishes.

I had brown spotting which a few weeks later turned to bright red blood when I had a miscarriage.
I also had brown spotting when pregnant with my second son then some bright red blood that turned out to be caused by cervical erosion/abrasion.
Go get an emergency scan if you are worried.
Hope all goes well for you! x

No point in scan yet. I find early scan's lead to more worry. Chances our LO won't have a heart beat yet and you'll just worry more.

I know it's hard.

I've had a MC at around 5-6 weeks and there was a lot more blood than an hours worth, it went on for about 10 days and was heavy, full of clots and painful.

So your bleed doesn't sound like my MC at all (of course, this is no guarantee that you haven't had/are having/will have a MC).

Some bleeding/spotting in early PG is quite common and is nothing to worry about. Hopefully this is all you've experienced.

Best thing to do is phone your GP in the morning and get a referral to your EPU. They can do a blood test to measure your hormone levels and then you'll know if things are going well....or not.

Best of luck Smile

I had spotting v similar to what you describe in 2 of my 3 successful pgs. My own mcs involved a lot more bright red blood and cramps. but the only way to know for sure is to do a scan - I know our hospital def won't do one so early though - but they might be prepared to do one in a couple of weeks time. You are right that a positive pg test is inconclusive (but better than a negative one, right?)

I have also had much much worse bleeding in a successful pg too, so I know it's tough but hang on in there.Gentle hugs and I really hope all is well.

Thanks to everyone who answered at the time. Just an update I had not had a MC. I'm 21 weeks pregnant and am expecting a little girl. Thanks for your input.
