Do early movement always feel like flutters?

I'm 19 weeks and haven't felt any fluttering or bubble sensations as yet. I do feel something every now and then in my lower pelvis which feels a bit like stirring but it's a bit of a sore, almost scraping feeling sometimes. Would this just be due to uterus growth or could this be movement?

I didn't feel anything until I was 23 weeks, and was starting to worry as I had read so many comments from people who said they'd been able to feel things from 14/15 weeks. But then I went on holiday and felt quite a few movements - I think it was something about being relaxed, since as soon as I got back to work they stopped again. Two weeks later though (now 25+5) and the flutters are back with a vengeance!
I think you'll know when it's baby wriggling; I was dubious but then found that it really does feel like bubbles (or put another way, a little bit like sneaky little farts). I'm guessing all the other aches and pains were just uterus growth / muscle movements / everything generally shifting around a bit down there.

Look, people say "flutters" and "bubbles" so as not to be crude Grin they feel like a fart brewing but no fart comes, okay! Grin!

Hiya - I only just started to feel the baby move on Saturday at 19+1. Sounds like that could be what you're feeling. The movements aren't painful, though they do seem to have led to an increase in stretching pains too - so maybe it's partly that?

It feels a bit like having a fish flipping around inside, or the way your stomach drops when you're on a roller-coaster! It's pretty unmistakeable once it starts properly! :)

The 1st movements felt like a mobile phone vibrating for me :)

Mine felt like being flicked from the inside just above my pubic bone, that was at 19 weeks. It took a few more weeks from then to feel stronger kicks. Smile

I never felt the flutters just started noticing 'thuds' at about 20 weeks. Obvious kicks from 21-22 weeks.

Splinters · 12/11/2012 16:28

Mine felt like something small bumping around inside me. Also found that when I was sitting or standing my abdominal muscles were tighter and could 'hide' the sensation of the baby -- I still (25+2) feel it much more clearly lying on my back.

Dovetale · 12/11/2012 17:58

Definitely felt like trapped wind to me!

ZuleikaD · 12/11/2012 18:14

Agree with Novia - can feel exactly like a fish flopping over. I tend not to feel the 'bubbles' but at 22 weeks am starting to get the odd thud.

HermioneE · 12/11/2012 18:15

Felt like fluttering morse code to me at around 19 weeks. I was expecting a single distinct (but light) movement, was quite surprised it was more like a 'flick-flick-flick'.

And I couldn't feel baby from the inside - did anyone else have this? (Sorry OP slight hijack!) Could feel with a hand on my bump, but not 'internally'.

Now at 25 weeks I'm getting very emphatic and unmistakeable kicks though! :D

Thank you for this mine of information! I'll know what to look out for now Grin

Mine feels a bit like when u shake marbles in a glass jar. Comes about six times a day for a few seconds. It's nice reminds me baby is alive. :)

stowsettler · 30/11/2012 09:05

OP I felt nipperette move at 17+3 (for definite, suspected about a week earlier) - they were definitely scrapes / prods, not flutters to my mind.

Lora1982 · 30/11/2012 09:28

I agree with Stinkins. It felt like fart bubbles in my stomach but without the fart.

growyourown77 · 30/11/2012 14:16

I agree - bubbles moving around and popping, but sometimes like a frog kicking around in there (or like Novia say, a fish flipping) which is quite odd, but lovely when you remind yourself what is really is and imagine tiny 1cm long hands and feet.

I was probably feeling them last week, but as it's DC1, didn't know what they would feel like and got them confused with some wind. This week they are more obvious somehow, and started on Tuesday when I was sitting quietly, slightly slumped, in a training course. It made me jump, then smile.

19+3 today
