Is it true I can't have a filling?

After vomiting non stop for 10 weeks (wk 6 to 16) my teeth are wrecked. I assumed I would go to dentist & get fillings (white not amalgam).
But aparrently not!
Any dentists out there- please tell me!!!!

You can't have the xray whilst pg. I've just had one replaced (I'm pg) but it was a root canal where the nerve had been removed so no need for pain killer jab etc

Yup I understand the no X-ray thing.
But I don't understand no numbing injection/ filling.
Scared, as I can feel a dodgy tooth. I can't do the next 20 weeks with toothache. Oh boy!

I had a filling in third trimester when pg with DS. Dentist seems relaxed about it and We discussed me being pg because I checked about the anaesthesia used

I had fillings when I was pg, I paid for white ones.

Dentist would happily have put mercury ones in and when I said I didn't want them as I was pg he said mercury ones were fine in pregnancy. I didn't want to risk it though and paid. This was ten years ago, so not sure if advice has changed. I certainly wouldn't have mercury ones.

I had an extraction last time I was PG. They certainly gave me an anesthetic injection then!

The rules may have changed since then though.

You should be able to have white ones. Or will you need a mercury one removed? Is that why the dentist is refusing? NB if you're as picky as me, you can request a BPA-free white filling.

I think I had to wait until after baby was born.
I still got a white one because I was breast feeding but they were able to give me a local anaesthetic.

Not seen a dentist yet, helpful people told me this as fact. Ha. I'll stick to mumsnet advice thankyou very much.

I had a white filling and a crown while pg. The crown was cosmetic and wasn't needed but they didn't seem concerned about the injections.

Hey, my dentist suggested I try to wait when I rang with toothache after chipping a tooth/filling (it would come and go each day) but if it got intolerable I was to call back. Ended up going back a month or so later - there was no way I would get to Xmas (due date) with the pain.
Dentist was lovely. Explained the risks around mercury. Numbed me up and removed rest of old filling. Replaced with temp dressing & sedative to see if pain would settle then re booked me to go back to have perm filling put back in (offered white not mercury).

My dentist told me dental X-rays are ok, I still refused it though. I've had to have quite extensive dental work done during this pregnancy, including 2 fillings, several lots of abx for an abcess which wouldn't clear and 2 extractions. All done under local anaesthetic.

I thought that pregnant women are susceptible to infections etc. so its important that any dental issues like decay, loose fillings etc. are sorted out to prevent a bigger infection - and thats why nhs dental treatment is free while you are pregnant?

I had a filling a few weeks ago. Was given a local and had old amalgam one removed and replaced with a white one (standard here as amalgam no longer used). The only difference was that I couldn't have my normal wussy sedative.

fillings are fine iv had one while being pregnant this time round and it isnt a white one. i do need an xray tho as i have tooth ache with no obv decay or wobbling which i have to wait for.
