Hi
Anyone in or been in same position.
What can I do to encourage the baby down?
Baby has been lying across my tummy since about 25 weeks.
Pregnant low risk in every other sense but midwife was talking about cesarean which I really don't want!
Any advise ?

walking, swimming, yoga, go on birth ball, etc. avoid lying on sofa.
hypnobirth sessions are apparently very effective.
meditation? visualisation?
remember though that baby can turn even in labour so dont listen to scaremongering about caesarians, that will only tense you up and prevent baby turning. you need to relax and give baby space to move. it sounds silly, but try talking to baby
good luck, keep us updated xxx

Just keep active and leaning forwards. DS turned after I did handstands in the swimming pool Hmm

Babies can turn in labour BUT if your waters go you're at risk of a cord prolapse so you need to get your hips higher than your head and call an ambulance. Don't rely on him/her turning.

Bellaboo123 · 06/11/2012 18:25

I'm in the same situation but breech...35w today and my stubborn lady is not budging.

Mw appointment on Friday, apparently if he hasn't turned they book me in for ECV to try to turn her...

They've mentioned the c word to me to - don't want it either but at the end of the day it's out of my hands!!! Stubborn little madam on my hands lol

C0smos · 06/11/2012 18:31

Please please do some more research on an ECV before going ahead. They can be quite dangerous and in a lot of cases baby will turn straight back round again.
I live overseas and they don't even offer them here due to the risks.

Honestly a c section is not big deal, pain after for a few days but stock up on painkillers and you'll be fine, I was back at the gym after 3 weeks.

coronalover · 06/11/2012 18:37

Have a look at this website www.spinningbabies.com/ there are some exercises you can do to help you baby to turn.

I did the upside-downy handstand thing 1-2 times a day for 3-4 days at about 35-36 wks and my baby turned and has stayed head down since (now 40wks!)

Bellaboo123 · 06/11/2012 19:15

If you end up having a c section can you still breast fed afterwards if you're on pain killers?

melliebobs · 06/11/2012 19:18

No experience on turning but do on c section

Mine was an emergency one and I had general anaesthetic too and we managed to breast feed

miniandfloss · 06/11/2012 19:37

Yep I'm 36 weeks and little monkey has been breech or transverse for last 2 weeks after being head down all the way! Got my midwife appt tomorrow to fInd out my fate! I've done everything on spinning babies and spent many hours with bum in the air, bouncing on ball, crawling, hot bath cold peas on top of bump, but will Only move between breech and transverse! I've decided to chill out about it now as know a few peoPle who's babies have turned at the last minute - just going to keep my fIngers crossed and will for you too!

cherrypiew3 · 06/11/2012 20:41

Hi I am 35 weeks also and baby is transverse been head down all the way through. Have a scan next week and will take it from there trying not to worry yet there is still time for her to move. Ds was breech and turned at the last minute so it does happen.

dietcokeandwine · 06/11/2012 20:50

Bellaboo yes breastfeeding fine after a section (either emergency or elective) - the painkillers you are given are fine to take whilst breastfeeding. I have had both an emergency and an elective C section, and breastfed no problems after them both.

Bellaboo123 · 06/11/2012 21:01

Thanks for that dietcokeandwine
Btw love your name!!!

I'm off to research ECV...!

mytime777 · 07/11/2012 08:53

Thanks for all the advice ladies. I don't want to go down the EVC route as I've heard lots of bad stories and don't like the sound of the risks. Unless its done in labour I don't think I will go for that.
I was told that if I go I to labour I must get to the hospital ASAP as you can deliver TE placenta before baby apparently or something like that. Scary!
He's still wriggling away so hoping The birthing ball, leaning forward and cold peas will help!
Have to let me me know how u all get on ( those in the similar situation )
Fingers crossed for us.
( need to put The Tramps - burn baby burn on the iPod and sing "turn baby turn" instead. Hopefully he may get the message !!! GrinGrinGrin)

Hi I'm now officially breech and bum engaged and starting to dilate! Been to the hospital lots in past few days due to various appointments, consultant was amazing and discussed all the options with me. Ecv was not an option an baby was so engaged. I am having a c section on Monday as this was agreed to be the safest way to get the baby out. They were willing to do breech birth if I chose but due to other factors the risks were higher and when it comes down to it I just want the baby to arrive in the safest wAy possible.

It's been a tough few weeks but I've now got my head round it and am psyching myself up for Monday. I've found all the health care staff have been incredibly supportive in helping with decision making so far. Still fingers crossing for you but if your baby doesn't turn and you have to look at other options then make sure you ask lots of questions.

I'm quite an anxious person but the whole experience so far has been fine and I've coped with being thrown a selection of decisions I didn't want to make.

mytime777 · 21/11/2012 17:28

Wow.
Thanks for getting back to me. I've got to see consultant and discuss options. I'm really unsure about the ECV and part of me hopes that they tell me what the only option is rather than give me a choice as I find the choice difficult as its making the right one that's hard.
I wish you all the luck for Monday and hope baby and u have an easy ride.
Keep me posted x

OP posts:
mytime777 · 21/11/2012 17:29

Ps how many weeks are u? Are u full term? Overdue?

OP posts:
miniandfloss · 21/11/2012 17:58

Yeah I found the choice thing hard and in the end I was glad there was only one option. I'll be 39 + 1 on Monday they won't do a planned c section until 39 weeks. Although I've had to be on high alert for the last few days as have been having random contractions so am all ready for a mercy dash to hospital if needed.

You can say no to a ecv if you wish this was made very clear to me before the appointment and I felt under no pressure. In fact I liked the consultant so much if there had been a possibility of it working I would have let her try which surprised me as I was dead against it at first.

Really good luck for your apointment and let me know how you get on :)

mytime777 · 22/11/2012 17:44

Had the scan today. Baby is actually oblique. Basically diagonal with head to bottom right side lying across my tummy. Got to go back in A week. If no movement then c section the following week. Sad the consultant took the turning choice from us as said basically I had a very very low chance of it working. Low due to it being my first pregnancy and my tummy muscles being strong keeping him in place and two because ive not got much water around baby.
I'm not going to lie I'm really scared of having a section but it's got to happen if thats the only way.

Good luck next week. X Smile

miniandfloss · 22/11/2012 21:23

I was given those reasons too apparently i have the worlds tightest tummy muscles and an unproven pelvis as not gone through child birth!

Hopefully your baby will move head down as its kind of that way already and its good they are going to see you again.

i'm scared of the section too and the wait at the moment is excruiating! but had a long chat with a close friend last night who had a horrific labour and ended up with an emergency c section and i figure if she coped with that then i can cope with a calm elective one!

i'll let you know how it goes x

miniandfloss · 27/11/2012 02:41

Update

Oscar George born by c section 26/11/12 6lb 13oz.

C section was fine so mytime please don't worry if you have to go down that route. It's all a bit of a weird experience but as soon as you have your baby in your arms all is forgotten! I'm also getting really supportive post natal care and one tip is to accept all pain killers it's a bit sore but nothing that can't be dealt with.

Looking forward to hearing your news x

mytime777 · 28/11/2012 22:12

Ahhhh
Only just seen this. CONGRATULATIONS!!
Lovely name too! Thanks for taking the time to get back to me and let me know. Really reassuring and nice to hear!

Got the consultant again tomorrow. I don't feel like he has turned yet as I can still see and feel the lumps and bumps from his shoulder and bottom in The same place - but we will see tomorrow. Likely they will give me a date !! Grin

I'll let u know.

Congrats again.
Ps how long have u got to stay in hospital for?
Also what pain relief did u have?
One more thing, how is it with a c section and milk coming in...?
Smile

miniandfloss · 30/11/2012 12:57

Hope your appointment went well...

I would recommend staying in at least 2 days they sent us home a little early and we ended up being readmitted the next day as we were having feeding difficulties and Oscar was a bit jaundiced. Came home yesterday and have had a calm night just about to have visit from breastfeecing specialist midwife.

In terms of pain relief I was on oromorph every hour the first day and then changed to paracetamol and ibruprofen. Make sure you ask for pain relief when you need it as is not always forthcoming! But I wax always given when asked!

My milk came in yesterday so have had no problems there just have had a bit of trouble with the latching on.

Good luck with everything and would love to hear how you get on

mytime777 · 02/12/2012 17:11

Ah that's annoying that u got home and had to go back but at least getting the care u needed!

Breast feeding seems like its definitely a fine art getting the hang of it!

I had the consultant last Thursday and he had moved around - not quite engaged but head down Grin so looking likely to be back to a natural birth now. We have another consultant appointment this Thursday to double check he's not moved back. Once confimed that he's in the right place we will try to do all be can to encourage him out ( to arrive before xmas!!) pineapple/ hot curry etc etc.
If he's moved back then likely I'll have to be booked for section again next week.
Have to wait and see... But hopefully all going in the right 'direction' Wink
X

Wow thats great news fingers crossed baby is now comfortable head down!

As much as the c section has been ok a natural birth would have been my preference for my first baby so really hoping it works out for you x
