So nauseous, how to cope with work?

Am 6+3 and have got really bad morning (read: all day) sickness. I've not been sick but I just feel really nauseous all day. I'm doing all the home remedies (eating small bites regularly, bland food, ginger, mint tea) which help relieve it a bit, but mostly I just feel like I want to sit/lie as still as possible to avoid making it worse.

I'm working full time and finding it sooo hard to concentrate. If I'm doing something fun I'll be distracted, but work isn't particularly fun so I really feel like I'm suffering through the working days. Sorry having a real moan here haha. Does anyone have any tips on how to cope with work and make the day go any faster?

I feel exactly the same. I'm 10+5 at the moment and have been feeling constantly nauseous for the past 4.5 weeks. It's getting worse though and I'm retching and throwing up more and more. On top of that all these hormones are turning me into some kind of crazy person - I burst into tears at the MW yesterday when she was going to take blood and I feel like such and idiot. I had one DC 6.5 years ago and though I was sick then it wasn't this constant sicky feeling. Am sleeping with a bucket by the bed. It's so gross and I'm fed up already. Roll on May...

omg hopeful my dp mentioned we had some sausage rolls in the fridge this morning and I had to have a sit down with my head between my legs for 5 minutes so that must've been hell for you!

I've found fruit works wonders during the day, satsumas and melon are great.

PseudoBadger good luck with the hash brown had a strage craving for kfc last night so I can't judge anyone!

PseudoBadger · 24/10/2012 10:32

I ran out of time so went for hula hoops instead :)

Glad I've found this thread! I'm ten weeks today and have had constant nausea with vomiting every couple of days since six weeks.

What I can stomach is changing too, this week it's cream cheese on white bread - and I'm craving McDonalds chips something chronic, although I don't eat there on principle! They must be sending us subliminal messages or something!

I've been off work the first part of this week, but I'm back in this afternoon and terrified! Told my boss last week and feel a little better now he knows, really hoping I can concentrate and don't chuck in front of my colleagues...!

MiriPenn · 24/10/2012 11:05

Ooh, also, can't face drinking anything but sucking ice cubes or ice lollies is helpful and doesn't seem to make the nausea worse.

I went with the tip of getting some grapes. That was great! Also got some Pombear which is nice too. I also noticed that having dairy does wonders to settle stomach (like yoghurt or fromage frais), but unfortunately only lasts for half an hour tops. Worst day yet yesterday though.

I was slightly nauseous when I was pregnant with DS1, but looking back now I didn't realise how good I had it!!

PseudoBadger - I wouldn't worry, just after my sickness subsided I had the worst urge for a McDonalds milkshake - poor OH had to drive me there to get one! Still queasy now (10 weeks pg today) but managing to keep food down :)

Stepawayfromthesweeties · 24/10/2012 15:09

I've been exactly the same, I ended up crying like a small child while my dh rubbed my head and told me that he wished he could take the sickness away (awwwwwww). I've only been able to manage bread and water and can't cope with the smell of anything. My train journeys to work have been absolute torture!! I ended up calling the midwife in tears yesterday and she said to go see my gp who has given me some stemetil tablets. Although I'm still feeling ropey and still not got an appetite it's really taken the edge off it & I finally managed to focus at work this afternoon. Just hoping that I can start dealing with cups of tea again, I'm usually a 6 cups a day kind of gal but haven't had any for weeks now. Life without tea is weird Wink

I have all day nausea and its debilitating. It started the moment I got a +ve and ramped up with proper vomming at 7 / 8 weeks. After the odd day off here and there, most of time spent in bed or loo and many tears I finally accepted DH's advice and got a prescription from docs for cyclizine at 11 weeks. Sooooooo glad I did it as the vomming has stopped and the nausea is down to 30% of what it was. If you're truely getting exhausted, at the end of your tether and struggling to function at all - get some help and see docs. I'm soooooo glad I did.

HTH!

AureliaD · 24/10/2012 15:49

I feel your pain. Usually an active and hectic person - now can't even lift my head without retching. Work is difficult - don't want to eat anything but know I have to in order to try and keep it under control.
So bad last few days that I've seen my GP and got some tablets to help. They only work for about an hour though!
I'm expecting twins (found out today, aargh!) and this is my first pregnancy, so finding it all a bit overwhelming!

Secondsop · 24/10/2012 23:28

I know I've said this already but I found Avomine to really help take the edge off it. We don't need to grin and bear it if we don't want to - ask the doctor for help. And don't let anyone fob you off by saying that those nausea wristbands are the best bet (as a nurse told me) - there are medications that can be safely taken. Plus I found the wristbands to be utterly useless.

janji · 25/10/2012 02:01

Flat cola, dry biscuits (ginger if you can stomach it) and eating bland snacks little n often!

PseudoBadger · 25/10/2012 07:11

I'm waiting for the tube right now eating hula hoops on the platform Blush

Binkybix · 25/10/2012 11:16

I went back to work today after having the start of the week off with a really bad cold. I've had flu before and this has been on par, probably because its combined with the onset of morning sickness.

I got there, started coughing, and someone asked if I was feeling better. I started welling up so went to the loo. Came out again, sat down at desk, people dropping by to see if I'm better. Unaccountable crying. I was trying to say that my eyes were sensitive and watering but people didn't believe me I'm sure. I work in a place with lots of tough banking types (I'm not one) and they must think I'm crazy and cry about having a cold.

I got sent home immediately with people asking in I have pneumonia because of my cough. I'm pretty embarrassed with my crazy pregnancy hormones :(

suzyrut · 25/10/2012 11:41

oh no binkybix hope you feel a little better once you get home with your feet up under a blanket. I had to conceal a sob at my desk yesterday because of a "you're an amazing strong woman" type chain email my mum forwarded me (normally I'd tut at best), pregnancy hormones alone can turn me into a wuss so it's not surprising you had a bit of a cry. Sounds like home is the best place for you.

Got cocky with my morning sickness earlier thinking I was feeling ok and had a mug of tea, spent next 20 minutes in the toilet trying not to bring it back up again...grrr!

badger eurgh the tube and morning sickness remember it well from last time (drive to work (with window down) now) thank god for hula hoops! And if all else fails you can look forward to one of those snazzy "baby on board" badges!!

Salukigirl · 25/10/2012 14:24

I had awful nausea until week 17 which was a nightmare as I was getting married at 19+4!

I found the only thing that helped was extra strong mints. Not much good for your teeth but it kept the horrid taste away which was half the problem.
Tried all the usuals, ginger, lemon, peppermint tea etc but nothing worked. the bands were useless.
Take time off and rest.

Binkybix · 25/10/2012 14:38

suzyrut now I've welled up again reading your post!

I'm due to go on an all day work trip tomorrow - tube journey of an hour then 2 hours on train, meetings all day then back again. Genuinely not sure if I can do it, but really feel like I must. Oh well, it'll pass (I hope!)

It's made me so much better knowing that others are crying at nothing too! Must remind people not to send me happy/sad/funny/anything e-mails for a while (I cried at some nice pictures of dogs yesterday).

Keeping my fingers crossed for your wedding saluki. Do you have a Saluki?

suzyrut · 25/10/2012 17:48

binkybix good luck for tomorrow, I really feel for you there's a lot of awful colds about at the moment, but you shouldn't push yourself, they'll have to do without you in 7 months or so anyway! If you do feel up to it and with any luck the meetings might keep your mind on things, if I'm left to my own devices at work it's all MN and baby name research at the moment!

ViciousChicken · 25/10/2012 18:36

I am the same,7ish weeks gone and almost constant nausea, though not every day strangely. Dry crackers and crisps seem to help as do satsumas and melon (like suzyrut said). And small amounts of liquids at a time, lemon&ginger and peppermint tea, as well as water. I usually wait for a wave of nausea to pass and then make myself eat something. Am probably putting on weight from the amount of carbs I'm eating though!
