Tell me the truth ladies - what happened to your boobs after breadtfeeding

hopefully not TMI but I was only able to feed DD for a week as I was ill after having her - I really want to breastfeed DC2 - was one of my big regrets with DD. But a 'friend' said if I did I could forget about ever having decent boobs again. I'm only a 32C and hadn't really thought about it?! Will they shrink/implode if I feed DC2 for six months (which is what I want to do). Part of me doesn't mind but I'm a fitness freak when not wrecked by morning sickness so I have that potential to be vain...

Mine are still fab (the only bits that still are, sadly) and I'm well over 40 and BF for a total of 5 years.

They're pretty sizeable and need good support, so perhaps wearing decent bras is an important factor, as greenbananas says.

stumpymosha · 19/10/2012 19:00

My breasts are exactly the same as they were when I was 16 but bigger. Before I got pregnant, I was a 36c; after feeding 2 babies for 6 months, I went up to a 36dd. They are still that size now and my youngest is 21.

BuntyCollocks · 19/10/2012 19:02

Mine went from a 34ff to a 32hh and didn't deflate after stopping feeding. I fed Ds until he was 1 year, and stopped as it was preventing my periods coming back and we wanted ttc. I became pregnant when he was 14 months, and am now 7 1/2 pregnant. Apart from being bigger, they are just as perky (very, surprisingly, but I put that down to always wearing good bras), and the same shape. No stretchmarks or prominent veins either.

FamiliesShareGerms · 19/10/2012 19:04

Much the same

Always wear either a bra or a secret support vest when pregnant, never go without support!

Springforward · 19/10/2012 19:06

34A/B before pregnancy, 36D by third trimester and ever since, BF 23 months. Apart from the size they don't really look all that different, considering I'm the wrong side of 30 and 5 years has elapsed so probably would have got a bit saggy anyway.

HotSlate · 19/10/2012 19:07

I bf for about 14 months in my late 30s - tits really NOT saggier or smaller afterwards, if anything maybe slightly bigger.

A lot depends on how much weight you gain/lose I think - I find my tits go smaller / emptier when I lose weight - this has been the same throughout life (and nothing at all to do with bfing).

WitchOfEndor · 19/10/2012 19:09

Slightly larger, lower and softer, but still a cracking pair Grin

horsebiscuit · 19/10/2012 19:12

In order to help answer this question for MN, I am selflessly feeding off only one boob. Actually it's due to a baby who refuses point blank to feed on the left side, though I persevered for months I have given up now.
I will report back in a few months whether I have one beautiful perky boob of a 21 year old and another wrinkled old boob of a seventy year old.

squidgeberry · 19/10/2012 19:23

Breastfeeding is actually good for your breasts here

CailinDana · 19/10/2012 19:28

I bfed my DS for a year and mine got a hell of a lot nicer, bigger, fuller, and just better for my shape overall. They went from a small C to decent DD. In fact after DS I became a lot curvier and more feminine, whereas before I'd been a bit boyish. I'm currently pregnant with DC2 and my boobs are getting even bigger - I'm a bit worried they'll be massive by the time she arrives!

digerd · 19/10/2012 19:45

My sister breast fed for months and her boobs shrunk, my best friend's also shrank afterwards. My sister-in-law breast fed and her large breasts remained the same, but her tummy became larger. Mine, well, nothing much to say about them as always very small, and only got bigger on the pill and when pregnant. Dind'rt change much after breast feeding

Wiggy29 · 19/10/2012 19:48

After bf ds1 for 9 months they went a cup size smaller but within a couple of years were back to a 34c, that said, they never had the firmness they had before, didn't mind cos even though they feel like a bean bag Blush they still look good in a bra Smile. About to do it all over again with dc2 so we'll see how they go. Only really dp who sees them outside a bra anyway so not sure I'm bothered!

iwasyoungonce · 19/10/2012 19:56

BF DS for 2 years, and mine don't look much different. They're not the beauties they were 15 years ago, but I'm knocking 40 so that's life I'm afraid!

notnowbernard · 19/10/2012 19:58

I've bf 3 - last one until 17m

Mine were bigger whilst feeding but are now much smaller than pre-pg. They are droopy untethered but look alright in a bra Grin. I blame pg though, not bf

RockabillyKitty · 19/10/2012 20:00

So most people whose boobs got bigger through wither pregnancy or breast feeding, do they stay bigger forever? Mine were fairly small and have got fuller with pregnancy and I'm planning to BF so I wouldn't mind even bigger but I don't want saggier. I'd actually consider surgery after I've finished having kids.

Loobylou222 · 19/10/2012 20:03

I went from a b pre-pregnancy to a d while pregnant and bf since I have stopped bf I have saggy c's!

NAR4 · 19/10/2012 21:06

Empty! best summed them up. They did however regain some of their stuffing over the years. My boobs did go from a 32B before being pregnant, up to a 32G whilst breastfeeding though. Just stopped bf again, but can't tell as I'm pregnant. Still hope beyond hope that when I stop next time they will stay the size they are now and not shrink back down. I lnow this happens to some people.

My friend has small boobs and never bf but says hers still went saggy and empty looking after pregnancy.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/10/2012 21:16

I've breastfed three babies for 14 months each.

I have big boobs so think they have a natural sag to them, they look ok I suppose if I've got a bit of weight on me and I'm standing with my arms in the air. Lose a bit of weight and they deflate though. I have a huge cavern the size of the grand canyon between my boobs if I'm not wearing a bra, nipples point downwards. They look brilliant in a bra though.

My friend is the same age as me. Also had three children and her boobs are are more or less the same size as mine. She breastfed her youngest for 12+ months. Her boobs are in great condition. Perky and everything. It's really not very fair at all. She can breastfed with one hand free, I have to use my spare hand to hold my boob up cause it hangs to low.

Pregnant with number 4 and will breastfed again. Not even considering what state my boobs will be in.

DoingTheSwanThing · 19/10/2012 21:19

Mine are as saggy as they were post-puberty...DM tells me its hereditary Envy

mylittlemonkey · 19/10/2012 21:35

I breasted my DS for 10 months and don't think really had that much effect. They were smaller than before but think it was because I had been on the pill for years before i came off to get pg and had forgotten how big the pill had made them. agree with other posters though that think its pg rather than breast feeding that changes your boobs. Loved being able to feed my DS and will definately be doing with this one.

MrsPear · 19/10/2012 22:05

I confessed to a friend that i wasn't happy with mine a couple of months after i stopped breastfeeding (had been for nearly 2 years) and i ended up showing her as she couldn't believe that they were that bad. She laughed and said no where near as bad as mine and i didn't even breastfed. And i can confirmed her breasts are in a far worse state. So in conclusion it is pregnancy not breastfeeding that does damage!

Badgerina · 19/10/2012 22:07

Mine are bigger and better after 4 years of feeding DS1. I can only imagine their bigger and betterness will increase exponentially over the forthcoming 4+ years of feeding DS2 Grin

JudeFawley · 19/10/2012 23:54

When I stopped (at 9 months for both), my boobs felt a bit depleted.

But they recovered and now I sport a very perky and full 32dd which most definitely pass the pencil test.

PandaWatch · 20/10/2012 10:02

I was my mum's dc4 and the only child she successfully bf. Before she had me she always went back to 34a after pregnancy but following me maintained 36c. She's 70 this year and is still very proud of her boobs - which she gives me credit for Grin

So I guess maybe, much like stretchmarks, everyone is affected differently.
