It5 would depend on what product it was being applied. Some will have more damaging chemicals in them that others.

Why would you want to though?

cod · 26/03/2006 15:50

dont see why not

desperatehousewife · 26/03/2006 15:53

cos i'm going on holiday and for once in my life want to start the holiday not feeling a lardy, anemic looking white whale.

desperatehousewife · 26/03/2006 15:59

mum2oneandonemore · 26/03/2006 16:01

I am pretty sure you can, i know what you mean about the tan before you go on holiday i done this & it made me feel at lot betetr about myself whilst on the beach i was 5 months pregnant Smile

desperatehousewife · 26/03/2006 16:03

was just wondering if there were harmful chemicals in it. I know if I phone the tossy birds at the salon they'll say "yeah, it's fine" but what do they know?

I wouldn't risk it to be honest, but I was one of these hysterical pregnant women who would barely go out of the house!

I think it is ok in pregnancy and it looks fab!you are pregnant not fat!

nulnulcat · 26/03/2006 18:12

i have my own salon and you have to be qualified to do tans and you do have to know what goes in them in case of reactions pregnancy etc so tossy birds at salon who dont know anything is a bit rude imo! and it is quite safe to have a spray tan when pregnant but if you are worried have a st tropez tan that is applied onto skin and you wont be breathing any chemicals in then but if you think im a tossy bird then you can ignore this

desperatehousewife · 26/03/2006 19:04

nulnulcat - i'm so sorry - no offence meant. The only place round here that offers it are tossy. I have found them rude & unhelpful and quite bird like. I might well go for the st tropez anyway...might look better on my pasty skin.

desperatehousewife if you are pale then can i suggest trying fake bake? it goes on the same as st tropez but is not as dark, they both depend on how long you leave them on for my pale friend only leaves hers on for 5 hours so isnt obviously faked unlike my 12 hour tan!!:) personally though i find johnsons holiday skin really good few days of putting that on and you will have a lovely colour however fake bake and st tropez are based on aloe vera and natural products and holiday skin is slightly more chemical based but still not enough to harm your baby

desperatehousewife · 26/03/2006 19:39

oooh thanks for all info. I have a Lancaster fake tan which is very subtle...was planning to take that away with me. Also have used successfully the Clarins after sun with a hint of fake tan in it that seems good too.

What is fake bake?

OP posts:
desperatehousewife · 26/03/2006 19:43

n-cat - looked to see what fake bake is - a home tanning is that right?

Was thinking probably best to go to a salon and get it done.

The only one I have ever had done was the Jean Paul Mist spray tan. Amazing process, really quick. But it did look very fake on me. I am blonde, brown eyes and reasonably pale (bit freckly) so it really shocked me when I saw it. I think it was too orangey for my skin tone.

Is St Tropez much different?

Just not sure I trust myself to do it that well...

nulnulcat · 26/03/2006 19:50

personally i wouldnt suggest diy fake bake or st tropez if you are doing your own then st tropez as you smooth it on to the skin and make sure there are no white bits left leave it on for minimum of 5 hours depending on how dark you want to go then shower it off fake bake works on the same principal but you have to rub it in to the skin so is more likely to streak especially on your back. the trick is to exfoliate really well first. both can be done at home but you really need the 3 step system exfoliate moisturise tan so can be pricey, with st tropez if you dont want it to go really dark then mix it with some of the moisturiser before application.

sorry if all of that was long winded! if you dont want a really dark tan then try the holiday skin before forking out for st tropez

if you do go for a spray tan get the girl to stand a bit further back to prevent it going to dark the nearer they are to you then the darker the tan

hope this has been of some help

desperatehousewife · 26/03/2006 19:55

thanks. My problem is I exfoliate about once a quarter which means elbows and knees are as dry as the sahara which doesn't help with the even tan thing.

Will make effort to exfoliate over next month!

Sorry, one final questions....I am going to go to a salon which ever product I go for...which do you think is the most natural looking for pale-ish skin...? salon applied st tropez/fake bake/spray?

Cheers
DHW

i would say salon applied st tropez, tell them you dont want it really dark so they can mix moisturiser with it and then shower it off after 5 - 6 hours

cod · 26/03/2006 20:03

i love saint tropez

it loks very scarey when it first goes on tho

nulnulcat · 26/03/2006 20:04

if the salon are doing it properly they should exfoliate you from head to toe pre application anyway but it will be better if you can concentrate on knees elbows feet etc beforehand

hope this has been of some help

Angeliz · 26/03/2006 20:05

oh mulnulcat, glad to read that about the Johnsons. I have never used any fake tans, could never be bothered but i used that last year and it really worked, kept me soft and just nicely very lightly tanned. As i'll be pregnant too this summer i've been wondering if it's safe.

Angeliz · 26/03/2006 20:05

nulnulcat! Sorry i spelt your name wrong.
