anyone else had the whooping cough vaccine then felt like absolute rubbish the following day?!? Don't know if it's anything to do with it but haven't really had any problems throughout pregnancy! Just feel really weak and tired! :-(

emmam25 its advising all women over 28 weeks up to 38 weeks to have the vaccination so when you are 28 week+ they want you to have it. i got the same letter along with the flu jab one Smile

I aggree that its all to do with individual choice and weighing up risk personally. When I had my whooping cough jab, I told nurse that I did not want the flu jab also, which she was not too pleased about at all. But being nearly full term i considered the risks of introducing the vaccine into my system higher than that of me contracting flu over the next three weeks (especially when my baby could now be delivered safely by emergency c section worse case)
Also you may want to look into the vaccines still use trace levels of mercury as preservatives. There are childrens doses of the flu vaccine available which do not use mercury although they do not tell you this unless you ask!!!
My sis is a pharmacist and had given me a heads up on this. She also said that if you want to look into side effects of jabs to try looking at American studies/ statistics as they have been vaccinating pregnant women longer than in UK.

hello annarob

I remember the mercury idea cropping up before. Do you know of any evidence that the mercury preservative in vaccines has caused any ill-effects?

annarob · 18/10/2012 12:29

I cant say I have evidence... Just something else I would suggest those unsure to look at! I would think twice only due to advice on eating foods with high levels of mercury in. The thing is that the vaccines only have TRACE levels, which are thought not to have affect. again what I am saying is only opinion and wouldnt want to sway anyone either way .... just another thing to consider when researching for themselves.

the reason I ask, you see, is that I wanted to know what you had in mind.

As WC is quite a severe disease, especially for babies and children, I'm anxious that we know when we're comparing hard facts, and when not.

annarob · 18/10/2012 13:49

fair enough! I went with the vaccine for WC as personally I felt that this risk to little one in the first few weeks before they got their own vaccinations justified my decision. it is a difficult decision to make, and it can only really be the one that you think is right. Hope you find all the necessary info to make your mind up! Its so hard when you only want to do whats best.
Good luck! Don't stress it over too much! :-)

It's all just do confusing!!
I live in the Netherlands, and will have our baby here,
But we have lots of family members planning to come I've to stay with us once baby is born,
I'm currently in discussion with my GP here, there isnt the outbreak of WC here so my GP is slightly reluctant to give me the vaccine,
Although he has said he will if I "really" want it!!

The thing is the vaccine that they would give me is a four in one,
Diphtheria, WC, Tetanus & Polio,
Is this the same as what is being given in the UK?

What my GP has recommended is that instead of giving the vaccine to me now. That we can once baby is born give preventative antibiotics to myself, DH, DS1 and baby,
So that we don't catch anything from visiting family members!

So now I'm totally confused!

Can anyone provide any more I for me?
Thanks

I wonder, does doing 'research' into this mean taking, oh, eight years or so to train as an epidemiologist, passing a bunch of exams, and then spending months looking at the latest research with paediatricians and public health experts? Because if it means googling a bit then why the hell should anyone take you seriously?

Tsk.

The vax would have less impact on all of you than unecessary abs, an odd idea imo.

The vax is the same, there isn't a separate wc one available here although I think the other elements get little mention.
