What bag for hospital bag?

What is the best sort of bag to use? Should I just pack my holiday suitcase on wheels? It's quite large though! Was thinking of a holdall

Your holiday suitcase might be a bit too big! Some sort of weekend bag or sports bag would work fine - I've fitted all my stuff into a sports bag and that is what I used last time too. If you don't get the luxury of a side room on the postnatal ward, you'll find there isn't a whole lot of space around the bed, so something that can be shoved under a chair is probably a good idea. x

Weekend type bag. You won't have much storage space. Your birth partner and other visitors can always bring you stuff later.

Just a holdall. A bag for life will do
Hopefully you won't be in there long, and if you are you can have DH/partner/supporter bring you changes of clothes and take away laundry.

I used a mini suitcase with wheels along with a small bag for baby things when i had my babies.
Just the right size and easily portable, don't take a large suitcase though you won't be needing it

I had two bags.

One labour bag which went in with me and had first nappy/outfit for the baby
One after bag which had more things for an overnight stay/going home.

Your OH can fetch bag 2 at some point after the birth. One of the nicest memories I have from DS2's birth is sitting up in bed, alone, drinking a cup of tea with a snuffly newborn next to me.

Bag 2 stayed in the car until needed.

Thank you, I thought that one might be too big but looking at the list of stuff to take I thought I'm going to need a massive bag!

I've packed a mini wheely suitcase as my main bag; the changing bag with extras which will stay in the car & only come in if I stay an extra night (more babygros, more nappies, a spare nighty etc) and a rucksack for DH.

I use a small rucksack because it's easier to carry in labour.

At my hospital you have to take your own towels, bottles, milk, sterilizing equipment!

I'm doing the same for DD2 as I did for DD1, and as others have mentioned above. I have one bag for stuff needed during labour and a second bag (which can stay in the car) for what I will need if I have to stay overnight. Both are mini wheeled cases (ie the sort which are accepted as hand luggage on planes).

I also have a mini suitcase on wheels. (The type you can use as carry on to an airplane)
I will only pack the essentials, enough to last me & baby 2 days stay at the most.
I then have a smaller bag, with top up clothes etc... that will remain in the house, Hubby can then bring this if we need to stay in longer (although I'm really hoping this wont be the case!)
Think the idea of a top up bag is perfect as you/hubby don't have to think about where things are!

I took a big suitcase with baby #1. It was the only thing I had. I got ridiculed by the staff. (not the doctors - just the healthcare assistant people. They weren't very nice).

Second one was born at home thankfully,

This one I'm packing a bag in case I go in, it's a small suitcase on wheels like someone else mentioned.

I'm also going to pack some extra stuff so my folks can pick it up easily if needed, in a separate holdall thingy.
