Cot bumper question

Wasn't sure where to post this but figured somebody on here may have answer. I'm pretty sure that when I had ds (8 years ago nearly) the general advice was not to use cot bumpers (linked to cot death), is that still the same (or have I possibly just made this up ? There are some lovely ones in the shops but find this odd if it's against guidance. Thanks in advance.

I'm interested in this too, they look lovely but I think I've pretty much made up my mind not to bother with one.

Hi, I've got one that is sort of an airtex material so it stops limbs and fingers getting through the cot bars but LO can breathe through it if they get too close!

Not sure of the official guidelines I'm afraid

2 years ago when I had my DD the advice still seemed to be against cot bumpers. I actually ended up buying an airwrap bumper. Its not one with pretty pictures on but is practical (plain white). It stops limbs going through the bars and also really helped stop dummies dropping out onto the floor. And even if the baby sleeps with its face pressed up against it it can breathe through it. I really wanted a pretty one too, but figured the risks weren't worth it.

Mmm, all a bit of a mystery! Is the guidelines still not to swaddle for overheating? I'm sure there must be a website covering all of this- if anybody has a link that would be great. The only thing I can clearly remember is feet at bottom of cot (we used sleeping bags so swaddling wasn't an issue).

I agree, I won't be buying one if there is any risk attached, shame as they're pretty but great as saves pennies . Seems ridiculous that they sell them if they are a risk!

Based in America but I assume the same applies here, general consensus seems to be they're a hazard.

General guidance, I believe, is to avoid until 12 months, unless you are using a air wrap type thing as PP mentioned or this type which is lovely but ridiculously expensive.
I bought the latter with an offer and they are lovely.

World Health org, say that cot bumpers should not be used,
Also babies should not be swaddled as they can become too hot and not be able to free themselves to cool themselves down,

Also pillows, and quilts are a big no no.

It always really really annoys me when I see these products for sale in shops,
If the recommendation is not to use them then the sale of them should be banned!
Even tonight I just happened to turn over when Eastenders was on, and there was a young (by the sound of the cry) baby in a cot which had a cot bumper.
It's SO wrong that these products are being sold!
