Read in paper that is is now recommended (as of last week) for pregnant women between weeks 28-38 so their baby had immunity until its injections, as there's been a rise in number of cases.

I had whooping cough v badly as a toddler but apparently immunity wears off so called my docs surgery and they are giving me the jab next weekend when I am also having my flu jab.

I'm 38 weeks today & having the whooping cough & flu jab tomorrow. Had to almost demand it though, as the Surgery didn't seem to have a clue about why it was necessary (the nurse had been ill over the weekend so didn't have a clue what the furore about whooping cough jab was Hmm )

I'm having mine this afternoon (at 34 weeks). Glad to be offered it, though I hope I don't feel rough afterwards.

Just had mine this morning- make sure you have it in your less dominant arm as it can feel sore and heavy afterwards.

PuddleLuscious - the first thing GP surgeries knew about the whooping cough jab for pregant women was when it was announced on BBC News on Friday morning. I kid you not!

It sounds like a good idea to me. I have a midwife appointment next week and will ask about it then. I'll only be 24 weeks so there should be plenty of time for me to get it sorted.

Shock I know! When the nurse called me on Monday am, she literally didn't know what I was talking about and had to ask me where I'd got my info from. I said BBC rather than glancing over from the DM sidebar of shame.. Am taking it as a good sign that whooping cough rates around here aren't that prevalent as a result though Smile

Horrible thing to have though- both my sisters had it as babies & sounded horrendous when my mother was recounting the tale with no holds barred gory details ( thanks mum, but really really not necessary ) Thank god she didn't get started on her labour stories again.. Grin

Just had it, didn't hurt much at all. The nurse said it also covers diphtheria, tetanus and polio, yay!

I've got mine booked with flu jab next week. Also have a glucose tolerance test on Friday, which involves two blood samples taken a few hours apart...am going to be a pin cushion!
