Just wanted to share that we found out yesterday that we are having a boy and I am so excited. First baby so every stage is scary and new - the scan was so terrifying as I always think the worst. By the time the woman said it was a boy I was so worked up I wouldn't have cared at all what they said - I was so excited that it was just o.k - I cried my eyes out. Just wanted to share. Oh and also - what are the perks of having a boy!?????

I'm loving this thread. For me it was airplanes. He loved them as a child. And I completely agree with the toilets never being the same lol.

Love this post! I agree with the earlier comment that as a female with boys you get to do things you may not necessarily have done when you were a child. My DS has just turned 3 and we love going out for walks looking for bugs and worms, or wading through rockpools - all stuff I never did as a child. And I know soooooo much about diggers it's scary. Go on, ask me anything, ha!

That being said, DS did come home from nursery last week with his hair in bunches and when he saw my painted nails he insisted I painted his too...Hmm

Congratulations! I have a DS3.9 and DH and I really wanted a girl when I was pg with him - but now I'm pg again I really want another boy!

My DM told me when we found out it was a DS that boys will always give their hearts to their mummies and DS is truly affectionate (to DH as well but you can tell he's a mummy's boy!).

Other generalisations things: nappy changes are easy because there aren't a load of creases Blush I don't have tons of pink in the house. Boys are straightforward with their emotions etc. I'm also a tomboy (I have an older DB) so it suits me having a DS, although he does like me painting his toenails when I'm doing my nails!

Congrats again Grin

Congratulations! Boys are utterly fab. I have two and they're magic Grin

I think the nicest thing about my boys is their sense of humour. I'm sure that's the same with girls. But also, I never felt quite womanly enough, or girly enough to be qualified to teach a little girl how to grow up happy in herself.

So for that reason alone I'm glad to have boys...also it means you don't need to worry about their being, well, I suppose the more vulnerable half of society, later on when they are teenagers. Which is sad to say but it does make me feel fortunate sometimes.

And boys are great when they are about 3 and they need a wee... you just find a convenient bush. Grin

Congratulations!

Boys are lovely and cuddly, particularly to their mothers.

You don't have to have hideous pink and sparkly stuff in your house.

You get to play with Nerf guns.

You can train them to like football, rugby, cricket etc then send them off with your dh to watch them live at weekends and pay them, leaving you in peace.

This is the first post I have made! EVER! I'm quite a private person. I am not on FB or anything... I wanted to add that boys are indeed fab. I'm a teacher, so from the perspective of when your little boy grows up... generally boys don't hold grudges! When they have argued at break time or lunch with their buddies, they've made up in 10 mins or before the lesson starts! I love the way that boys respond to competition and being mind-active (using their hands and practicality to explore problems). Yes, they are cuddly and endearing even when they are 10. Enjoy and congrats. My DS is the light of my life. Bless him.

CPtart · 02/10/2012 16:43

For boys, there's no one quite like mummy (for now!)

BikeRunSki · 02/10/2012 16:46

My mum had two of each. Her words of wisdom:

Boys mess up your house
Girls mess up your mind

DS is 4 and I agree with the first bit. DD is nearly 1, so I have yet to find out about the second.

sweetkitty · 02/10/2012 16:48

I had a boy 2 years ago after 3 girls. He's fab, very much a boy. He's wild, physical, climbs on everything, wrecks everything, he's a muck and mess magnet but he's so affectionate a total Mummy's boy, loving and cuddly.

I don't think there's one sex is better than the other TBH and you are always going to get non typical boys and girls, each one totally unique and you don't know what your going to get, great isn't it?

sweetkitty · 02/10/2012 16:56

Or you can get a total tomboy like DD2 who adores dinosaurs, Star Wars and worm! DS is a lucky boy to inherit all her trains, cars, dinos etc

IWantToGoToThere · 02/10/2012 20:10

Where do I get a cuddly boy from?! My DS is almost 3 and is all elbows and knees when he stays still long enough for me to snatch a cuddle. Although he has started (in the last 2 days) to say 'Mummy, I want a tuddle' and then climb on my knee, let rip an enormous stinky fart and run off laughing, the little blighter!

So my input is, boys are vile and smelly but HILARIOUS and a constant source of amusement!
