Consultant appointment - pre existing bp problems

Hi, I've had high bp for past ten years. It's unexplained and not down to life style issues. I take medication and its well controlled. I've got my first consultant appointment tomorrow (will be 22 weeks). It says on my letter to allow an hour and a half. Could anyone give me an idea about what will happen- I really hate not knowing. TIA

They may well do an ECG, and an ECHO, weigh and measure you, then see the consultant? There always running late too so need to leave time for that. Hope that helps.

Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy!
I was the same when I was pregnant with DS. The appoinment is to talk about monitoring you and your pregnancy and how they will care for you. Your BP will of course be taken as well as weight and measurements.
After first appointment I was booked in for more regular scans.
Basically, because you're classed as being a high risk pregnancy, they'll just keep a closer eye on you and baby and will also keep checking you're on the correct medication levels. (mine needed increasing as the pregnancy progressed).
Don't count on being allowed a water birth.

I too have high bp and take tablets and see a specialist for it. At my 12 week scan he went through all of my notes and advised me of the risk of pre eclampsia which is common for those with high bp. He also said he wouldn't want me to go too far overdue and will also probably do an extra scan. Finally he advised me to take 75mg of aspirin daily. I probably spent over half an hour with him and felt like I was being really looked after. I'll see him next at my 20 week scan. In a way I feel quite lucky that I get the extra attention!

It won't be 1 1/2 hours with dr or even doing tests. They estimate how long the wait is. Mine usually say 2 hours and I have 5-10 mins with MW then 5-10 with consultant.

Its ok I didn't think I'd be getting an hour and a half specifically with a doctor.
