Dates Wrong?

Hello,

Just a quick question I know noone can give me a definitive answer other than a sonographer but here goes. I'm supposed to be 16 weeks today and just been for my appointment at which the nurse noticed traces of blood cells in my urine. She said it could be nothing and when I told her I've had snot like discharge a couple of times in the past few weeks she said it could be a bit of an early show. Once I told her I was only 16 weeks she said that it couldn't be that as it was too early then and probably a water infection but from the questions she asked I've no signs of infections...
I also don't think it could be anything serious as I had a smear test literally a week before my last period. This is the next thing that makes me think I could be further along; maybe the date of my last period wasn't really my last period maybe it was just a bleed from having the smear and the sonographer has just gone with that date?
Also, and least relevant I know, I've seen my friends 12 week scan and hers looks so much smaller than mine and a lot of people have said I've got much more of a bump and am growing much faster than anyone else they've known at 16 weeks.
Any ideas would be welcome as I don't want to sound like an idiot when I ask the sonographer to check at the 20 week scan. Thanks Smile

If you've had a 12 week scan, that's supposed to be your dating scan and if the baby was a lot further on than they assumed, they would have told you - I went for mine at what they'd said was 13 weeks, and came out with no NF measurement as the computer wouldn't do it, because apparently my baby was 14+3!

So you would know if you were further along, iyswim.
I understand your concerns though. I wouldn't freak out too much about the discharge, it is pretty variable during pregnancy, and could just be normal.

I'm pretty sure they measure the baby at 12 weeks and if the dates are out adjust them.

Dont know how easy it would be to do yourself but could you measure your fundal height? Basically tapemeasure the distance from the top of your bump (dig right in under your boobs), right down to your pubic bone.

The measurement in cms should be within three weeks of your estimated weeks pg. In essense, you should be measuring 13-19cms. Anything over 19cms would indicate you being further along or a larger baby/carrying lots of water.

Saying that, your MW should be doing the above when you see her.

Ah okay so there's not much chance of them getting it wrong/just thinking it's a big baby at the 12 week scan? Thanks for the advice.

Blood in your wee is possibly a urine infection. The 12 week dating scan can be out by a few days but if you think you're 16 weeks and you're wondering about a show at the nd of pregnancy thn no, IMHO that's not possible, the scan could not possibly be that far out. Scan pictures will look different depending on what depth (think zoom) they were taken at, they're not comparable.
Sorry you're going through this worry.

I just had my 12 wk scan and they adjusted my dates, even though I'd only been off by one day. The results of the scan, which were sent to me in post, include this adjusted date and the original, estimate edd.

Do you have the results of your 12 wk scan to hand?

EdMcDunnough · 20/09/2012 16:34

No they measure everything - CRL, BPD, HC and AC and so on - and then the computer machine thingy adds it all up and averages it and gives you a gestation.

have you got your scan notes - it should say all this stuff in detail.

If you'd been nearer 16 weeks, they wouldn't have been able to get some of the measurements or work out the gestation in the same way as there's a chart - and apparently you can go off the end of it Smile

Ah that's brilliant, thanks for the advice. I didn't think they could be out having done the measurements at 12 weeks but when everything over the last few days added up I suppose it made me wonder.

Ikwym Smile

I spent weeks trying to figure out how I conceived during my period, or whether it was more likely the baby is just fecking huge Smile

Still wondering...even the 20wk made it the same. Oh well.

At my first scan she put me forward 4 days and say it may be wrong but only by a day.
