Just had my BFP and have found some useful information on what I can and can't eat but have found articles on nail varnish, certain cream/moisturisers, any kind of cosmetic containing chemicals seems like a no no... can I still wear makeup, deoderant and beauty products etc?

What things should I avoid?

Thanks x

Think they just say hair dye, don't they? Tbh I'm a hairy no make-up sensible shoes kind of gal so don't bother about that. You can look at the pregnancy book on the department of health website - should have latest guidance in there. They used to give out printed copies.

I read nail varnish is fine in moderation i.e every week because the chemical in it (sorry can't remember name) is only harmful if exposed to it every day so would only be an issue if you were a nail technician.

Not sure about creams, would have thought they were ok?
Deodorants it's better to use roll on (I use spray tbh but open the window and try not to breathe in!)

I don't think there's any evidence regarding hair dye and damage to the baby. However, your skin absorbs it so you are introducing chemicals into your body. I dyed my hair in my first pregnancy but waited until I'd reached the 2nd trimester. I switched to roll on deodorant but purely because I would puke every time I used the spray! I carry on using my makeup (although only minimal anyway), creams and I rarely wear nail varnish (I think this is about breathing in the fumes). Are the articles you mention from a reputable source? Anything and anyone's opinions can be posted on the internet. I'd always go with NHS guidance and good clinical evidence. I take the view that my body is amazing and any harmful chemicals (if absorbed in moderation) get filtered out by my liver before reaching the placenta.
