baby in v. uncomfortable position - how can I encourage him to move?

I am nearly 30 weeks pregnant and for the last 24 hours the baby has been in a really uncomfortable position. There is a hard lump - his bottom I'm pretty sure! - lodged right behind my tummy button pressing on it painfully so that all the skin here is sore, and there is almost constant kicking/pushing (his legs I assume) just under my right breast, so forceful that I feel out of breath. I realise this is par for the course but I am so uncomfortable. Is there anything I can do to encourage him to shift just a little bit and ease things? I've tried a bit of gentle pressure but he just kicks my hand! Walking/sitting/lying down doesn't seem to make any difference.

Try kneeling on all fours, I think that gives them maximum space to shift about in.

Yes try all fours, I sometimes find having a nice deep bath makes mine move all over the place as well, that might help?

Press a bag of frozen peas on the bit you think is his bum, it'll make him wriggle and hopefully shift position :)

Thanks all. Kneeling a bit tricky - am on crutches with SPD and can't reliably get up off the floor - but loving the frozen peas idea. No frozen peas here but will try an ice pack. Will give all fours a go when DP is home and can help me up!

Drink some very cold water.

CherryBlossom27 · 19/09/2012 16:28

Or a nice cold ice-cream :o

Get into a deep bath? If you can get onto all fours put your bottom into the air as well

AliceHurled · 19/09/2012 17:08

Honestly, I stroke the lump and ask him to move. And he usually does. I know that might sound irritatingly simple, but thought I'd mention it if you've not tried it.

Rockchick1984 · 19/09/2012 17:24

Any luck so far?

Frozen peas, chocolate, orange juice or coffee tend to be helpful for getting them to budge. Frozen peas if they seem to be wedged is most useful i found. Ds used to have an awful habit of wedging his bum cheeks on either side of my rib cage and kicking me in the stomach. It was most unPleasant!

Thanks everyone. I tried reasoning with him and actually he did move down for a while which took the pressure off a bit but has now shifted back up again. The really uncomfortable position seems to be his default one. Just had a nice long bath to no effect though it was relaxing. Going to try all fours and then ice pack now. He is very lively in there so it's not that he needs waking up, just that I'd like him to adjust his basic position slightly! Glad I'm not the only one to have had this problem.
