I know I've seen a post on this recently but any find it now, so sorry for the repetition!
I'm around 8 weeks pregnant with DC2 and I feel bloody awful! I suffered with wicked nausea when I was pregnant with DS but I'm sure it's worse this time round!
Trying to keep an 18mo entertained whilst constantly feeling like I've spent an hour on the waltzers is no fun I can assure you!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Smile

I'm 9 years on from this but saw you on active convos!

  1. have you tried sea bands on your wrists? Helped me!

  2. ginger and lemon tea! Crush a 1" square of fresh ginger. Add juice of half a lemon. Pour over boiling water, wait 10 mins then strain and serve. Add sugar if too sour. I lived on this for 4-5 in all mt pregnancies!

Ginger and lemon helped with DS but I can't seem to stomach it this time around Sad

I'm lucky and haven't suffered too much so far - but I did feel queasy if my stomach was empty. Solution: eat! Seriously though, even though you may not feel like eating it does help if there is something to line your stomach with, even if it's just a cream cracker.

Travel sickness bands saved my sanity.
Struggled a bit anyway but dread to think how miserable I'd have been without them.
Good luck OP, I sympathise, I felt indescribably awful until week 12.

FranTan · 18/09/2012 19:49

Grazing throughout the day helped me. Whatever I fancied - usually biscuits, crisps and bread.

helsybells · 18/09/2012 19:57

Oh I really feel for you. I struggled terribly and had to be signed off work for a lot of my first 5 months. There seemed to be very little I could do except sleep - difficult for you with little person around.

I found that sea bands didn't work for me but they obviously have for quite a lot of people so might well be worth a try. Also a lot of people recommended ginger to me but I didn't find that helped much either. Some people say sucking crystallised ginger is a big help and eating ginger buscuits.

I existed on really plain, bland food such as crumpets, muffins, bread which was all I could really manage. Drinking mint tea can sometimes help, or fresh mint in hot water. Tea pigs do an amazing range of teas (their peppermint is amazing) and trying some of those might be of help?

I hope you feel much better soon!

Ready salted crisps
Rich tea biscuits
Bacon sandwiches.

Boop33 · 18/09/2012 20:17

Crrrrrummmppettttttttttssssssssss !!!! They are a serious life saver - you will still feel crap but for a couple of mins you will have crumpet bliss :-) xx

kellestar · 18/09/2012 20:25

crumpets and marmite for me too. DD is 21 months of chaos. I puked over her yesterday in her car seat and felt blooming horrible, had to clean the mess up and shower us both off.

Nausea is constant and nothing really touches it apart from not going hungry and crumpets are quick and easy and satisfying. Last time I went off chocolate, this time I can't face anything sweet or cheesy things. Meaty is good though.

Have been wearing my seabands everyday and I'm not sure they are helping at all.

Flat ginger beer [non-alcoholic] worked last time, but not this time, in fact if it's not water it makes me heave.

I'm only 9 weeks.

birdofthenorth · 18/09/2012 20:42

Me too, 9 weeks pg, with DD aged 2 to look after, feeling rotten, all day long. I got some pregnancy nausea sweets from amazon that help a tiny bit (sorry can't link, on phone). Other than that eating first thing helps -biccies by the bed- as does nor getting starving. Napping when DD naps if at all possible helps to. In fact, I would like to go to bed all day. Alas.

Watching thread with interest for good tips although the bacon sandwich suggestion just made me hurl

tinyshinyanddon · 18/09/2012 20:57

I hear you OP! A few things that helped me:

  1. Plain noodles. Like the noodles you get in chicken noodle soup.
  2. Keeping cool - the only time I actually threw up was one morning when the house was overheated (issue with thermostat). Hot days were much worse than the cooler ones.
  3. Sea bands.
I think it gets worse the more children you have to run around after. I hope it passes for you soon - I am 14w and generally feeling much better (less sick, more energy).
AliceHurled · 18/09/2012 21:02

The only thing that helped me was some lovely pills from the doctors. Didn't stop the nausea but did stop the throwing up.

Only other thing I can add was some track you listen to that's meant to cure it. Nevasic it's called. Didn't work for me.

Paradisefound · 18/09/2012 21:05

I am 9 weeks pregnant, been very sick, spent a couple of days in hospital. The thing that has helped me the most is avoiding tap water. Been much better since drinking bottled water. I am on cyclazine too. Still have the odd bad day tho when nothing stays down. Plenty of rest, not too much time looking at screens helps too. Let's hope it passes soon!

SkinnyMarinkADink · 19/09/2012 07:50

I am a long time sickness sufferer too (22 weeks now) i would recommend..

Brush your teeth on an empty stomach, i have found, brushing when i have eaten causes lots of throwing up.

Eat before your hungry, i have set a eating routine i.e

8am breakfast
10am snack
12pn lunch
2pm snacks
5pm dinner

sticking to a schedule of eating really does help, i have found if i get over hungry or miss out a snack it creeps up on me and i am puking up more than ever.

Your only 9 weeks so sickness is par for the course, i was hospitalized with it all as dehydration took over and they wouldnt give any sickness stuff till after the 12 weeks mark.

SkinnyMarinkADink · 19/09/2012 07:52

Also paradise says about bottled water i am exactly the same, tap water just has a really awful taste so i buy a 6 pack of buxton with the weekly food shop.

Your supposed to drink one of these a day 1.5litres so its a good way of keeping track

LostItYearsAgo · 21/09/2012 07:51

Crumpets! Wow! For the first time in weeks I feel almost human again Grin thanks to all who suggested them!
Now here's hoping the feeling lasts! I have a child free morning and a house to clean! Sad

SkinnyMarinkADink · 21/09/2012 11:40

Sod the cleaning. pop your feet up and relax!

greenhill · 21/09/2012 11:54

When I was pregnant I found that eating before I got out of bed helped. I had either a brioche or a dry cracker and some water, then could face the day.

I went off herbal teas and still don't like them, they make my stomach lift, even now.
