I had itchy boobs when I was pregnant first time - but this time my skin is dry and itchy all over - very, very itchy!!! Especially my boobs and my legs. I've stopped using soap, and use plain massage oil all over, but still seems to be getting worse. Any tips - dietary or cosmetic - it's driving me mad!!

Do you have an aloe vera plant? or steal one from a friend?! Cut leaf in middle and squeeze gooey green stuff out.Its pure,no preservatives, very natural and it works!!!!!!!!
DONT go and pay a fortune for any Aloe Vera products in some health shop.

I got a huge tub of e45 cream on prescription as I seem to be having trouble with ezcema and very itchy skin, especially on my arms. It works really well and is even better as it's free!

I might try that meself notasheep! Just started with eczema and it's driving me bonkers.

I also find having a bath with a stocking of porridge helps ease the itching. It's the natural moistuiser used in aveeno cream and I find it really soothing.

Thanks for the tips everyone - am about to get in a bath with a bag of porridge oats!

Nicoloola - how many weeks are you?

Twinkie1 · 19/03/2006 20:10

Do your hands and feet itch??

The palms and soles I mean?

nicoloola · 19/03/2006 20:50

Snafu - I'm 23 weeks. Twinkie1 - luckily(?!?) it's just a general thing, not my hands and feet.

I had very itchy skin on all my body below my neck, and it was a condition called gestational urticaria, but it was only in the last few weeks of pgy and apparently it usually only occurs right at the end. It's a reaction by your skin to the extra stretching. It's extra common among mothers of twins or big babies, so if either of those applies to you it might be worth checking out.

Don't know if I may have stumbled across something which would help but I thought it was worth posting this.
I'm now 15 weeks into my first pg and last week started getting generalised mild itching. Couldn't put it down to anything apart from being pg so I scoured all the threads and learned all about the possible causes (panicked slightly) but after 2 days it stopped.
It may be a fluke but all I did was start body brushing every morning before a shower and start using a body lotion (Essential Care Rich Hand & Body Lotion which is very skin friendly).
Obviously you would have to avoid areas of broken skin, varicose veins etc and go carefully over bump and breasts but maybe worth a try for anybody having this problem.
Just google 'body brushing' and there's loads of links to info on how to do it.
Good luck!

My skin WAS very itchy - so much so that I scratched until I bleed. Most itchy was calves & lower back. I discovered Aveeno cream when i was in the US & it's FAB Grin

You can get it on perscription here - you need to specify it though, or else you can buy it in Boots for about £5-6 .

It has oats in it & just feels great on my skin.

Hi nicoloola

I too suffer from the most hideous dry and itchy skin. (am 27 weeks) One of the best things I've discovered is E45 BATH oil. I put double the said amount in my bath and soak for about 20 mins - very oily and be careful when you're getting out of the bath - but you need only pat your skin dry and no itching afterwards! I do like the idea of porridge in the stocking though - might try that tonight. Gotta be cheaper than the gallons of E45 I'm going through at the mo... do you think I'd be able to get that on prescription?!

nicoloola · 22/03/2006 13:59

Hi everyone
Glad I'm not the only one!! I've now tried the oats - good before bed. Haven't found an aloe vera plant yet, but fancy that as it's additive free.
When in the chemist the other day, the pharmacist suggested 'aqueous cream' (similar to E45) for only £1.99 for a huge tub. Used it in the shower instead of normal stuff and then rubbed in loads afterwards - so far so good!!!! You can apparently get this on prescription (as with E45).

Hope you're all feeling better after trying all these tips!!!
