Boys names help (sorry for another boring post!)

Sorry to be a bore, but I could really use some advice on choosing Boy's names. Hubby and I really like names that are traditional but a little bit unusual, something that can be changed / nicknamed if they so desire and nothing too chavvy. Our shortlist is:

Theodore (nn Theo or Ted). Love Theo and Ted, but not actually sure I really like Theodore - but Theo on its own seems a bit too informal?

Edwin (nn Ted / Ed). We quite like this, but have got quite a few negative comments. Is it too old man ish?

Jolyon (pronouned Jo-le-on), (nn Joe or Jon). I really like this but am concerned it is a bit girly and hubby not keen!

Haydn - I really like this, hubby not keen and is it becoming very popular?

Henry - I like but is it too common?

Zachary (nn Zac) again too common?

Also Like Eliott but feel that it is too similar to DD1 - Eloise.

Thanks for your help, and please feel free to suggest others.

Cheers xx

I know a Jaydn and a Jayden. Boys. And a Jaydon and a Jeydn girls. Common name back home.

'Harry a nice shortening but it is just so common at present'

Youc alling my baby common or what? Wink

He's a Harold actually so we get the disdain for the common name bit AND the disdain for the old man's name bit. yay! And don't forget the terrible middle names- jarvis (as in pulp) Griffith (as in my Grandad).... we egt to upset everyone! YaY! Grin

The whole upsetting tradition began when Stirling was born, everyone hated it. They did like Samuel though- and they liked Adam and Jack my nephews. No imagination.

Just call him what you like. By the time he gets to secondary school there'll be so many Jolyons (how do you pronounce that please?) around that he'll drown in them, the way names seem to go in and out of fashion. And it's not the boring name landscape it was when I grew up- Trace, Dave, Claire, Mark, Darren, Louise- anyay, fortunately wehvae beautiful multicultural names coming in and people are braver.

Especially true if you ive in a MN type area.... amongst allt he fennels, sorrels, gabriels etc a Jolyon will be King!

'can i suggest Noah.........just because i'm quite taken with it at the moment. i know it can't be shortened but i just like it as a name! '

I would have thought it could quite usefully be shortened to 'No' which cuts down by half all conversation between 3 and 23.... No Jolyon become just No
