Dizziness - early pregnancy

It's awful. I feel dizzy but I'm not dizzy if that makes any sense? I'm eight weeks. Does anyone else have this? The reason I ask is I suffer from anxiety following the birth of my last DS 17 months ago and I want to know if it's anxiety or the pregnancy. Thanks!

I had dizziness, later than 8 weeks mind. I had to start eating mid morning & afternoon snacks & that sorted it. Could you try that?

JambalayaCodfishPie · 15/09/2012 22:32

Please mention it to your MW - I suffered really badly in the first trimester, it was worse than the sickness. I eventually ended up being signed off work after going face first into a doorframe in dizzying confusion. Sad

What I mean is, mention it and she can help find the root of it.

I had it quite badly at around 6 weeks, saw doctor & my blood pressure was low + dropping further when I stood up & I was lacking iron. He just told me to take a vitamin that includes iron and for the BP issue stand up slower & give myself time to adjust before walking around. Both suggestions worked for me & I felt much better within a few days.

Thanks for the suggestions people. I shall mention it to the midwife. I've just had my booking bloods done so hopefully that will pick up on a possible lack of iron.

If it's not one bloody thing it's the other!

agree with username - I had it with both of my girls (low blood pressure) fell down stairs once, and also passed out in a chip shop Blush

weirdly didn't have it with any of the boys Hmm

I have it too. Currently 10+6 and starting to improve I think but I've been off work last week and off this week too. Nausea is dreadful but the dizziness is so debilitating. Had no time off sick with DS and never felt this extreme of dizziness.
It helps a bit if I keep well hydrated, eat regularly and get up slowly. But with morning sickness and a toddler you can guess how often that all happens!

Mylittlepuds · 16/09/2012 11:18

Hi caz. Funnily enough my mum had it with me (girl obv) but not me brother. She was off work three weeks. I didn't have it with DS - so maybe...

Marmite - Oh God tell me about it. My toddler is 17 months. What about yours? I'm so scared of dealing with two!

Mine is kind of a lightheadedness, coupled with the feeling faint when standing up. Not dizzy as such, like as in the room spinning. Does that sound familiar?

I got really dizzy around about 12 weeks. A gynae doc I work with said it's because that's about when the placenta starts taking in lots of blood but you haven't created enough extra yet so you end up with v low blood pressure. I actually fainted a few times. Don't know if that might be the case with you or not that early. Earlier on I found I would get really dizzy just before I threw up (bad morning sickness).

And I agree, it's much harder when you've got a toddler too! DS is 23 months old and I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant. Every time I've been sick DS cries.

That's interesting Bionic! And aww bless him! That's too cute :)

I felt awful in the first trimester. It could well be your blood pressure or iron levels - see if you need some more blood tests. I was also diagnosed as having alpha thalassemia trait for the first time, which I gather (although I am no doctor) can also look like iron deficiency.

I hope you feel better soon. I started to improve at about 10 weeks but didn't really shake off the dizzy wobbly feeling until a few weeks after that.

theTramp · 17/09/2012 09:54

MyLittle - I had precisely that, usually after walking up stairs too fast or getting up too quickly. It passed after a few weeks and def improved when I started eating more regularly. MW checked my blood pressure and iron and they were fine so view was I needed little snacks rather than big meals.
