First trimester - how much exhaustion/tiredness is normal?

Hi, I haven't had my booking in appointment yet (next week) but am roughly eight weeks pregnant with dc2. I am feeling very very tired, to the point where I have just spent four hours on the sofa lying down and let ds nap for much longer than he should have. I really seem to be struggling this time around. As a result am drinking a lot more caffeine than I should.... I keep telling myself it will just last for the first trimester but should I actually be worried? Am going to try taking some ferroglobin to see if that helps. Any suggestions/tips/thoughts/sympathetic stories?!

Too sweet for me cheese. I struggle with The sweetness of lemonade!

I really feel for you. My first pregnancy was dreadful, I was exhausted all the way through and until 14 weeks I was horribly ill as well. I just couldn't get out of bed most of the time. Unfortunately that falls within the range of normal (they kept checking my iron levels but there was no issue there). 2 days after giving birth I felt better than I had during the whole pregnancy.

Every pregnancy is different so this one could be just a bit rougher than your others. I hope you're feeling better really soon.

I find pregnancy exhausting too. I am in bed by 8.30 every night which is very dull but the only way I can cope have enough patience with my 3 dc's during the day. Late nights also floor me for days so I have hardly been out (am now 16 weeks). I always find I have loads more energy as soon as the baby is born and am far less tired getting up in the night with a newborn than I am when pregnant!

It was almost total wipe out for me every afternoon. I was studying at the time and I used to fall asleep in the library. Head down on the books.

I'm 21 weeks and am still feeling utterly wiped out every day :( I'm in bed at 7pm every night and feel so sorry for my 2 year old ds as he seems to be indulged in cbeebies most of the time while I feel sorry for myself! I can't ever remember being this tired last time or for so long. I'm still waiting for my surge of energy that comes in the 2nd trimester. Anyone seen it?

Your experience sounds normal, OP. I probably slept about 14-15 hours a day in the worst bit of the first trimester. It was like having the flu. Be kind to yourself but PLEASE be careful with the caffeine as you should really not be drinking very much in the first trimester!! I drank decaf tea, and only now have moved to one cup of tea a day at about 20 weeks.

I am normally an active person but these last 8 weeks have completely knocked me out. Some days are worse than others but often it feels like I have to drag my body around as my limbs have no energy in them at all. I have to drive places I would normally walk. My mother and MIL say just listen to my body and rest if I need to but DH is away and house is a tip. Thankfully work is quiet at the moment and have my own office - hopefully no one has noticed how much I am struggling!

Glad to see I'm not th only one. Am limiting myself to 2-3 cups of tea a day, and try to drink water when I feel sluggish. Over the weekend, I found that if I carried on doing stuff, I was ok, but the minute I stopped or sat down, that was it. My bum would be glued to the sofa etc. am envious of you that can get into bed before 9pm, even if DS goes to sleep by 8, there always seems to be so much to do...DH is working away today and tomorrow though so am planning on catching up on sleep tonight.

photo, I am normally a clean freak, but my house is a tip too. My ironing pile is sky high, and the bathroom needs a 'deep-clean' instead of the wiping over it is getting at the moment with my new best friends, Flash Wipes.... I tackle it in little bits though, no-one else thinks my house is messy, so i have learnt to relax.

Hope we all get our much deserved bursts of energy soon!
