I'm 27 weeks and small build wit quite a sizeable bump and my back is KILLIN me.

I cannot get comfortable, I work in an office and by the end of the day the pain is intolerable. I am seeing an osteopath but tbh it only helps for a day and it's bloody expensive. I have a bump support belt which is ok, I spoke to the Mw about using a tens machine and she said not before 37 weeks.

Basically I am seeing my gp tomorrow and will kick up a stink about being referred to a physio.

Anyone hav any advice or tips for back pain, or tips on what I should say to the doc to get a referral. I'm fed up with being fobbed off with "ooh take some paracetamol and rest" aside from the fact that i have a full time job it doesn't do anything!

Rant over

joining your thread as I could have written your post! I am 28 weeks tomorrow and had back pain since the weekend Sad.

I find it helps if I hold my tummy muscles in while walking and sitting as much as possible, seems to support everything better though it's quite hard work. Also doing some stretches has helped eg lying on my back on the floor and bending knees over to one side as far as possible.

No advice re the doc but hope you get some help.

Hello - I'm a GP and I'm sure your doc would be happy to refer you to the physio. The only problem is waiting times - I was referred for physio myself over a month ago for sciatica and I haven't heard from them yet. I'm 34 weeks now and going to have had baby by the time they give me an appointment at this rate. It might be quicker depending on where you live, but if you would consider a private physio appointment that might benefit you more. Unlike seeing a chiropractor, where you have to physically attend for sessions, the physio would do an assessment and teach you the right exercises to do to build up your core muscle strength around the spine. As you can do these at home, you can get a lot of benefit from just one physio appointment. Hope you're able to sort out the physio, anyway. x

I started having horrendous back pain at about 28 weeks, im now almost 36 weeks.

Driving was terrible, sitting on the sofa too, even with cushions only helped for around an hour.

What i did find helpful was going to bed early!! Some evenings i was in bed for 7, and would watch tele in bed, lay down tho as this helps the spine to relax and stretch out. I never had back pain lay in bed.

I lie on my side with a pillow under my bump and one inbetween my legs.

Now i dont really have back pain, only occassional.
