I am going back to university in a week or so and there will be lots of travelling and brain power involved so am just wondering what you think would be quick and effective to start the day. So far i have

  1. Porridge.
  2. Avacado on toast.
That's it. Tia.

Id have said porridge, like idea of avocado. I also have a pint of weak tea plus some water at some point - keeping hydrated helps. I add a big dollop of plain yoghurt and some honey to the porridge and usually chomp on some almonds too - this has kept me going through tough mornings teaching sen for years (we don't manage breaks), equally effective now! Maybe throw in a banana?

Jammy wagon wheels are a staple just now BlushBlush

I second oats and bananas. You need slow release energy foods. Whole grains and complex carbohydrates that take longer to digest. Stuff like Scrambled egg on wholemeal toast is good.

Weetabix in any way you want them. Hot with milk, topped with bananas or just on their own. A busy day is a 3 Weetabix day for me. Fills me right up but works a treat. I also carry a banana with me in case I get peckish and cram a slice of nutella on toast in there too Yep, I'm a piggy :) x

Porridge first thing - slow release, low fat and also seemed to counteract morning sickness/heartburn. Muesli gave me shocking heartburn. Wholewheat toast with peanut butter for elevenses Grin

Agree porridge.

If you want a fab healthy snack to have handy in case you need a top up in the day, these are the tastiest healthiest energy boosts I know. So gorgeous and satisfying, and though sugar is involved, very nutritious, as stuffed full of seeds - way better than anything else I have found. I buy them in Asda.

Proper health foody style muesli (without added sugar), plus a small handful of almonds, tablespoon flax seeds a chopped banana, and a tablespoon of whey protein powder, mixed with whole milk plain yoghurt. Loads of healthy slow release energy.

I love those bars too Jenner

Second peanut butter on toast, DH swears by this

ZuleikaD · 12/09/2012 13:40

Much as I love porridge I'm absolutely starving three hours after breakfast if I have it. I swear by a giant bowl of muesli - the stuff with plenty of fruit and nuts in it. Keeps me going till lunch (11.30 Grin).

When I was pregnant and even more so in the early days of bf I'd have 3 weetabix plus half a bowl of muesli. Then toast at 11 Grin

Best to take snacks with you too in case it is a long time until lunch.
