GBS in first pregnancy, what happens second time round?

When I had my daughter nearly 2 years ago I was diagnosed with GBS and was hooked up to antibiotics through labour.

Does anyone know what happens this time round? Will I get re-tested or will they just treat me for GBS regardless?

Although I wouldn't personally take the risk of not having the antibiotics if needed I feel that it changed my labour quite a bit. My waters breaking was the first real sign of labour and because of the infection I had to go straight to hospital rather than start things off at home. I was then induced and obviously hooked up to the antibiotics.

Anyone any experience?!

Hi Tea,

In my first pregnancy I did not even know about GBS but, unfortunately, my ds was born and caught late-onset GBS meningitis. Luckily, he survived (although with problems) but in my subsequent twin pregnancy I didn't even test for GBS they just gave me antibiotics in case. Both my dds were born with no issues.

As antibiotics are a pain, it might be worth doing your own test which is more reliable than the NHS. I don't know if you know this or not but there is a fabulous resource at www.gbss.org.uk who will be able to answer your question.

I had GBS during pregnancy with dd and have been told by my mw that they will swab me for it at 36wks this time. I didn't have a chance to have the antibiotics first time round, as she arrived 40mins after arriving at hospital, but all was fine.
