Clary Sage?

I've been told by a few people to try a clary sage bath to get things moving quicker (39+6) and was wondering if anyone had tried it?

I tried it, no idea if it worked or if it was just my time anyway, but after having DD the nurses at work told me off as its not recommended.
Sorry, not much help, but I probably wouldn't use it next time.

I've been trying to research it but getting mixed reviews! I know it's safe in late pregnancy but whether it helps labour along or hinders it is another matter. Hmmm.

My aunty is an aromatherapist. She's made me a mix with clary sage in it but has given me strict instructions not to use it until I'm already in labour and at the hospital, se said it can speed things along pretty well.

Thanks Sparklekitty, maybe I'll just pack it in my hospital bag then!

Sparklekitty would you just burn it then on an oil burner? What else is in the mix do you know? Thanks!

You won't be allowed to use it in hospital, I think, in case any of the staff are pregnant.

We were told that in antenatal classes a couple of years ago when someone asked about using oils in the birthing pool.

I thought this was a baby name thread Grin

Ooo, not sure polly, my aunty has put it in a massage oil mix with a base oil so I can put it in the bath/pool or on my skin, she also added lavender and bergamot I think, mainly because they are relaxing and I like the smell rather than having any birthing links.

Didn't think about not being able to use it in hospital. I know I could if I went to the MLU (can't for various reasons now) as they encourage aromatherapy but I guess it's worth calling the hospital to double check.

Thanks sparklekitty. I am doing homebirth hopefully so that wouldn't be a problem.
I will investigate!

sparklekitty · 11/09/2012 13:03

Ah if you're at home I don't see why it would be a problem unless one of your attending mw's are pregnant.

Wouldn't waste the money if i were you. Spend it on a gym ball and bounce for hours and hours.
