How bad was yours and how long did it last?
I know it's probably normal but I'm now losing the will.
Everything I'm eating, even dry biscuits, toast etc is coming back up. Even waking up in the middle of the night to vomit.
Sometimes I know when its going to happen, other times it comes out of nowhere. I've lost weight, not sure how much this week but last week lost 5lbs.
I'm 9 weeks tomorrow, first pg, and really can't face another few weeks of this.
Luckily I am in the middle of three weeks off work, as just got married, so another week off but if I'm still like this when I go back I don't think I could cope with my 12 hour shifts on my feet as a nurse.
Sorry to moan! X

Hi GF, I have had a vey similar experience and it is wholly miserable! I am now 12 weeks and still suffering but I have discovered some things that help. First thing that really helped me was acupuncture. I'm not one for alternative therapies normally, but so many people said it helped, so i gave it a go. So far it is helping, I still wake up retching but the ongoing nausea has gone, so I can get some food down during the day (and make it through a day in the office which was tricky before!). I just googled local acupuncture practitioners but I understand some GPs offer this for MS.

However if you continue to struggle to get food down then I really recommend you go to your doctor and ask them to consider prescribing some anti nausea medication. There are a number of medications that are used fairly widely for patients with very severe MS. I decided that I would try everything else first but have accepted that i will take the meds if it continues into my second trimester.

Unfortunately there foes not seem to be any magic formula for how long it might last- for some it disappears on the 12th week but for others it continues to 20 weeks and beyond.

You will get a lot of advice to try ginger etc, nine of this worked for me but ice cold water with lemon juice helps me get fluids down.

Good luck! It will all be worth it in the end (or so they tell me!).

18 weeks and still vomiting Sad

I thought my sickness was contained to the morning but today is the first day where I have vomitted up my lunch.

Really fed up with it now.

Why is everyone telling me I look so well when I feel like death? Confused

glossyflower · 09/09/2012 17:11

Just got myself weighed, lost another 4lbs this week.
My weight has always been a steady 9st 10 so this is unusual for me.

Pregnancy sickness is horrible but from what I gather you don't need to be concerned in the first trimester about not putting on weight.

I'm 18 weeks and although I have a small bump, I haven't gained any weight according to the scales. Think this must be due to the nausea and sickness.

Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy

3rdbump · 10/09/2012 17:16

Its miserable isnt it..........i had horrendous sickness which started at 8 weeks and included two episodes of hospital stays (hyperemisis) i found sucking ice lollies helped and kept me hydrated, in the end i was prescribed cyclazene which helped take the edge off. My sickness improved loads at 16 weeks and tailed off. Now 25 weeks and so much better MOST days but still have the occasional vomit :(
Go see your gp xx

3rdbump · 10/09/2012 17:17

Just to add i lost almost 2 stone - the hospital wasnt concerned as they say baby gets enough supplies form your body stores

rogersmellyonthetelly · 10/09/2012 21:19

If you are vomiting in the middle of the night you need to see your gp and get some anti nausea medication. I was on stemetil from 7 weeks to 14 weeks and it really helped. I still felt shitty a lot of the time, but did occasionally have an appetite and managed to keep most stuff down. I'm still 9lb down on pre ivf weight and 14lb down on what I was the day I found out I was pregnant, I'm overweight though, so not overly alarmed by weight loss, as I was planning to put on minimal weight, just maybe not via morning sickness!

backwardpossom · 10/09/2012 21:24

Almost 15 weeks and still having vomiting moments - like I'll go a few days feeling fine, then I'll be rubbish and puke for a couple of days. Just when I get my hopes up lol...

Adviceinscotland · 10/09/2012 21:25

Please don't suffer, there is things the gp can give you.

I'm on dc4 and always had terrible morning sickness, it seems to peak around week 8-9 get gradually better week 12 then hugely improve at week 14.

I hope it eases for you soon and even though you will be fed up hearing it all the suffering is worth it Wink

HaveALittleFaith · 11/09/2012 07:17

Do see you GP because it sounds like you're now so dehydrated you're in a vicious cycle. Once it's under control, I've lollies are great for hydration and they are less severe going down for some reason (they give them to chemo patients). I've found that really helpful.

newby2 · 11/09/2012 12:15

Hiya,

Oh it's HORRIBLE. You just want to lie on the sofa (which in turn makes you feel sick) and go to sleep.

Sleep and Sea bands are my best offer. I had really bad nausea for 20 weeks and then a reprieve and it's just come back at 26 not as bad.

Green apples and diluted pink grapefruit juice has done the trick for me and try to make sure you aren't constipated which makes it worse. For the first time Ive used Glycerine suppositories alternate days which does help.

In my 6 weeks reprieve I forgot I even had sickness, like the childbirth itself, its only having it back again which reminds me so it will be a distant memory.

I'm a nurse too working purely clinical 12.5 hour shifts (paeds) so know how you feel.

I have dragged myself in, thrown up and just got on with it-unable to talk to any-one and defo would NOT recommend it. Gp and certify until you feel better.

Gp cert is the best way to go because you may find yourself taking days off here and there and it's best to have the gp on board straight away so your sickness record doesn't suffer.

glossyflower · 11/09/2012 12:31

Thanks guys. I've now lost just under a stone in two weeks. I'm not concerned about the baby in regards to this but for me I'm concerned as I'm quite slim as it is.
Started on stemetil which hasn't helped, even taking an extra dose when I wake up at night (I know it's naughty but I'm on one tablet twice a day and you can have two tablets twice a day). Called dr today who is going to give me cyclizine. I hope it works as this is unbearable.
May have to go in hospital to get Iv fluids but see how the cyclizine works first I guess.
Yes ice lollies do help and I found dry bread with a little salt laying down manages to stay in too.
Everyone's different.
Take care all.

Oh you poor thing. Ondansetron is the anti-emmetic you need, you probably know that but it's very expensive and your gp wont probably prescribe it.

You definitely need to be seen again. Ketones above 3+++ is serious. Go to the day assessment unit and get checked out.

Best of luck.

glossyflower · 14/09/2012 09:10

The cyclizine has helped a little in that I can keep food and drink down a bit longer rather than vomiting it straight up.
I'm still pretty much confined to bed as I feel so weak and when Im up and about there's always something that triggers vomiting.
I'm going to ask the GP today to give me some ondansetron.
Felt quite frustrated with my husband and my parents, because yes in a sense this is partly psychological in that anything that triggered me to vomit before makes me very nauseous at the thought, then they come to me and tell me I have to try make an effort, get out of bed, get motivated and even go out for a walk for fresh air.
Fresh air would be terrific but I can't even look down on the pavement in case there's something like a snail that will trigger me off.
I'm roughly vomiting 8-10 times a day, feel nausea for most of it and when I do vomit sometimes quite violently I end up wetting myself - how can I go out in public like that?!
I said to my husband that I don't think I can manage work next week and he said I have to try! We have only been married 2 weeks and I wanted to tell him to f* off!
I'm so fed up and getting really depressed. I'm meant to be on antidepressants as it is but not able to keep them down so I'm treading a little dangerously.

Oh don't worry I won't do anything silly!

Ditto. 9 weeks tomorrow. Weeks 5-7 horrendous could not keep anything down, GP useless. Ended up phoning early pregnancy unit, they advised going to A&E. Was admitted for 2 days. Urine infections can make morning sickness much worse and are very common in pregnancy. I was put on cyclazine, helps a bit. Had to go back to hospital a week later... Seem to have some really, really bad days. I'm also on antidepressants and can't keep them down... Lack of nutrition is also making it hard to cope. Go to your GP if they are unhelpful go to A&E, the drs at the hospital are very supportive and know what they are dealing with. I was also scanned to see if it was a multiple or in their words 'sinister' pregnancy whatever that means. Getting help early on is crucial, you will probably need to go on IV fluids before starting meds. Despite how bad it is, everyone I have met in the last few weeks says .... It's worth it, when you've got your baby in your arms.
