Heartburn!

29 weeks with DC2 and woke up at about 4am with burning in my chest and throat. Once I'd woken up enough to work it out I realised it must be heartburn. Didn't get it at all with DS so honestly thought I wouldn't get it this time either (I know - I'm naive lol)!

What can I do to help it? Tried propping myself up in bed a bit which helped but at some point I moved down and it happened again. Still think I have it a bit now.

PS. Can't stand milk so drinking that to help the heartburn is no good! xx

gaviscon? Rennies?

SpottyTeacakes · 08/09/2012 09:24

Start with Gaviscon, it does work for most. If it doesn't help you the doctor can give you something stronger. They will advise Gaviscon first though. Get the mint liquid, the tablets just stick to your teeth!

PS I feel your pain, been getting it since week 16, now 24

Gaviscon!!!! Am 35 weeksPG and on my 4th bottle! Peppermint tea helps as does lying on your left and avoiding spicy food or fruit juice. So horrid, you have my sympathy

I was given a piece of advice by a good friend a while back which has proved invaluable in the early hours.

She told me to keep (wait for it) a packet of polos by my bed to stave off nighttime attacks of heartburn. I thought I'd give it a go and so far so good. Dont get me wrong, if I need to mve on to more hardcore stuff later (ie, gaviscon) I will do but for now it's certainly serving its purpose. As far as I'm concerned, the longer I can go without the prescribed stuff the better.

Give it a whirl,if it doesn't help, you've not let anything.

Milk should help briefly. I use Gaviscon - I'm now 36+5 and popping the double action tablets like sweets... I can't swallow the liquid stuff, the consistency of it makes me feel ill Hmm

Figuring out what foods set it off (I can't eat chocolate - apparently high sugar foods can make it worse) helps and I tend to be better overnight if I don't eat after 8pm-ish.

Thanks everyone! Sorry I haven't replied before now - have been out t the Paralympics all day.

I bought some gaviscon tablets on the way there (can't take liquids in). A friend also recommended chocolate milk so I got some on the way home (and some strawberry just in caseGrin).

Will try and work out if anything makes it worse. Don't like the idea of it bing things like chocolate tho! xx

I couldn't stomach gaviston but the chewy remegels are great. They work a treat and they taste like sweets!

Alibobster · 08/09/2012 20:26

Rennies work a treat for me- gaviscon is like drinking mint emulsion!
