Combed out around 15 live lice from my DS hair last night night. then treated with lyclear. Sleepless night for me with phantom itchy head. But Ds hair seems clear this morn -Yeh!
Just wondered if any one had any idea how long they might have been in residence on DS's head, before discovery??
Do I have to treat everyone in house(6) and wash all beds?

Ideally yes you check everyone and treat (sorry) that's a lot of nit busting...
We use nitty gritty comb- have a hunt through threads on here and lots of convos have been had about treatment mostly this week I saw my first nit of the new school year yesterday Hmm
Good luck

Hello, a long-suffering early years teacher here (can't think of anyone who'd have more experience with the little buggers). Yes, you will need to treat everybody in the house, and then go through their hair with a fine tooth comb to get all the eggs out (because unfortunately some survive the treatment stage no matter how long you leave it on). Some of them may not have picked up the headlice, but better safe than sorry and having to do it all over again in two weeks' time when they've spread!

I've never washed the bedsheets because of headlice, but like I said, better safe than sorry I guess!

Hope this helps and good luck getting rid of them! :)

yy check everyone and wash sheets on a high temperature to kill any lurking in there.

If there are no lice or eggs on anyone I was told using chemicals before won't deter them and will cost you a fortune, if they have them I would treat but if not just keep checking, nitty gritty combs are fab and you can get them on prescription from your gp or buy them for £10 ish at chemists. I only use conditioner with the nitty gritty comb and keep combing every night for a couple of weeks until all the eggs are gone.

I treated my daughter with chemicals the first time she got them. Completely freaked out and ran to the chemist right away. Now I just use a nitty gritty comb and plenty of detangling spray and comb it through every day for a week when she has them and once every 3 days just to check. Her school has a real problem with head lice so if I bought treatment every time I see a live head lice on her I would be broke. Never bothered washing sheets tho and so far she has kept them to herself with no one else in the house catching them.

It's amazing how many eggs they can lay so 15 live lice, if only small could have all just hatched and not been there long at all.

Thankyou everyone.
Useful advice. Hate the wee beggers!!

You don't have to do it every night. Do it every couple of days and no more than 4 days apart to pick up any hatched eggs.
Nitty gritty comb and conditioner is all you need.
