When are you past the point of safety of a chemical pregnancy?

I did a Clearblue Digital test which said 3+ weeks and the pamphlet said that a doctor would date this at a 5 week pregnancy.

When does the risk of chemical pregnancy end? I know there is still the chance of a normal miscarriage but don't want to tell close (but not that close) family until the possibility of chemical pregnancy is over.

Thanks. :)

As far as I know a chemical pregnancy is when you get a positive pregnancy test before your period was due. Once you have gotten a BFP after the date your period would have been due then it wouldn't be considered a chemical pregnancy.

Does that help?

It does, however because my periods are pretty erratic it's difficult for me to completely establish exactly when my period would be due?

If the cb digital is saying 3 weeks, then it's past a chemical pregnancy. That would be bfp before due date and then period arriving.

Congrats

Thank you lightrain but because my periods are irregular I take it there's still a chance my period could come in the next couple of days...? They are normally about 31 days apart though so suspect the chances are slimmer...

If your periods are about 31 days (approx 4.5 wks) and on the basis that you ovulate about half way through the cycle that would be 2.25 weeks ago. If the CB test is saying 3+ wks, then you're just past the stage of Chemical pregnancy.

Congratulations :)

I believe they consider a chemical pregnancy to be anything before the pregnancy can be confirmed by a scan. Since a sac is normally visible by the time hcg reaches 1500miu, around 4.5/5 weeks
I would say you are now past that stage.

i looked this up at the time when i had a chemical pregnancy ...

"Very early spontaneous abortions?those that occur before the sixth week LMP (since the woman's last menstrual period)?sometimes are termed early pregnancy loss[3] or chemical pregnancy.[4] Those that occur after the sixth week post-LMP are medically termed clinical spontaneous abortion."

i had one at 5 weeks 3 days.

Thank you everyone for your helpful info. Guess I'll just have to seriously hope I don't bleed in the next few days but it's looking increasingly like I'm out of the danger zone in terms of a chemical.
